Granted, I do think we must stop short of judging the parents as willfully deficient, at least in many contexts under capitalism. Being trapped in poverty doesn't render bad parenting good, but it does help show how hard it can be to be a good parent under hyperindividualist capitalism.
I think most people *really* don't want to be around bad parents. Kids are lovely, but dependent. It usually sucks to be around them b/c they aren't being cared for atm. Our society offers little recourse in those situations. The 'polite' way is to watch the kids get abused and not intervene.

Worth adding: blatant transphobia from liberals has steadily risen since the election last year, but now it's rapidly increasing. This is ugly, even if it's not particularly surprising.
Since the Newsom propaganda push ramped up, I've seen a sharp increase in open transphobia from liberals, online and off, up to and including slurs. Talking to other trans folks, including in other parts of the country, has confirmed that a lot of us are facing this.
