I'm really very glad that I didn't have to do any of that, and depended on letters sent home with children.
Rejoin. Yes. Grumpy and getting old, not the other way round. Sysadmin, freshly retired. Bodger. Engineer to non-engineers; non-engineer to engineers.

I corresponded by email for work purposes for probably teens of years with someone whose sex/gender/status/etc I never knew because of their name. Over the years people have similarly wondered if I might be a Samantha... I've concluded that for almost all of life, it doesn't matter.

When your folks are loaded, though, you get to try anything you like, again and again, until you find it. The rest of us get not-very-many shots and we need to get it pretty much right.

A so-far-untested aspect of my ignorance, then!
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
Not all that mute, then?
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
I heard a sparrowhawk yesterday! They had "mute swan" as BOTD yesterday, which presumably doesn't make any noise at all...

Mostly, I'd just like to be able to copy the grid reference the mouse is on so that I can paste it into the OS website's search box. I can do that, via your drawing tool and a CSV file, but for a single point, it's still easier to just write the grid reference on a piece of paper.

I suggest that UK food security does not significantly depend on trawled fish.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
Dunno about you, but I was talking about the sort of "fishing industry" that involves trawlers and nets.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
Fish can be farmed and imported. There is no particular need to go out and catch them, and the basic insignificance of the fishing industry is a solid demonstration of that.

Maybe the data centres can be converted into some sort of accommodation?
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
We were asked about buying one of these some time ago and couldn't find one. I _think_ that was the time we bought a "roller mouse" for the relevant member of staff instead.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
The fishing industry could disappear overnight and no-one would starve to death.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
The "etc" is doing some heavy lifting, there, but even so Warhammer is substantially above fishing, in it.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
I agree it doesn't do a lot of situations justice, but when it's an aspect of a nation's GDP, it's the money that matters most.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
Land fit for heroes, eh. Dreadful.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
It would definitely be useful if they'd stop paying quite so much attention to the fishing industry, which is damn close to irrelevant.

Is the angle perhaps that they know their viewers are smarter than that, and we know they're talking outrageous rubbish? That seems to be the angle taken these days with, say, Israeli government reps, and, say, Sebastian Gorka.

Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
I dunno about you, but every time I've ever dumped someone, I've only known if it was the right thing to do after I've done it... And I have been wrong. I never mentioned "encouraging". I'm talking about realising mistakes I've made for myself.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent

Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent

Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
My notion is that it looked like that because there was no-one sufficiently authoritative and trustworthy from government to counteract it. We'd all been roundly shafted in many and varied ways by Blair, etc., and there was no-one much to make the other case who'd've been believed.

To be fair there's no earthly reason why a microwave oven needs a clock, let alone why that clock should have to be set before it can be used. Microwaves need two buttons: "add 30s to cooking time" and "stop".

How about you just conclude, as you're totally desperate to, that I'm somehow racist, and see if I care? Will that make you happy? Nothing I write will ever change your mind, and nothing you write will change mine, you Brexiter Troll.
Sam Nelson (@crediblywitless.ssrl.scot) reply parent
In what racist practices is the EU engaged that are actually intentional and not part of something malfunctioning? The European Union is a single entity, so you meant "it is", not "they are". You're a writer of some sort?

The people installing the advertising displays should be given "provide live bus times" as a requirement at each bus stop they're working on that doesn't already provide said live bus times - same as builders have to provide primary schools next to their new developments.
