maybe I live in the wrong neighborhood, but I've tried that and it only works about half of the time. I end up having to put everything into my van and take it to goodwill or somewhere else any way.

His reckoning will be a steroid induced coronary. It will not be painful enough, or prolonged enough, to account for the lives his policies will take over the next decade+

They certainly don't LISTEN to their base anymore, otherwise Mamdani would have the full throated support of the Dem. establishment, as would have AOC before him. Their operatives lament the lack of a strong candidate for federal elections, even as they work to sideline the most promising candidates
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Ds used to be about substantially more than donations, but on the whole, those days are gone. They do next to nothing in most districts to actually organize bottom up OTHER than asking for money. Young folks like Mamdani or Abughazaleh are impressive precisely BECAUSE they take a different approach.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
They don't need to win elections to continue as a money making machine. They prob rake in the most in donations when it is close and they look like they may lose. Then their "help us protect democracy" texts get the most donations out of fear of R victory. Easy wins = less $ than tight losing races.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
They were going to raise prices anyway. They have already cut staffing to the bone, so the only way to increase profit further is to charge customers more for their crap.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
The irony of my post essentially describing the Dems as being deliberately feckless being reposted by a pro dem account...
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Liberals don’t need charismatic leaders. They just need to be less scary than the alternatives. Being boring actually helps them. They only need enough power to garner donations, and they can get that through enertia and pointing out how scary Trump is.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Acknowledging that jerk behavior pushes people away is not an excuse, it is an explanation. That someone was a jerk doesn’t justify voting badly, but they don’t need to justify their votes to us. Moving left takes time, and every jerk is a speed bump to that transition at least, or a 🛑 at worst.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Lots of people have very little appetite for politics. And that becomes zero when people talk down to them and verbally abuse them. There is a reason Mamdani is so cheery and nice to people, and it’s not just because he’s a nice guy. being nice wins people over. And being a dick chases them away.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
I think Mamdani is hitting far above his weight class, and I'm here fore it. But that is because he is charismatic, and his ops are so fucking bad. We don't have enough highly charismatic leftists with a mic right now. Most leftists do not have Mamdani's skill, even if they match his politics.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
I never said I had a solution. Wish I did. I just explained some FD specific vocab. Then, someone put on a pretty clear display of Online Left behavior by acting the fool, calling me names, confusing me with someone else, etc. Until I blocked them. Then you professed confusion about my meaning.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
The more rando's suck up the attention, the less people are willing to listen to non-scary leftists, and the more they turn to comfortable, establish, and feckless Democrats. We need to account for that, to grow support for leftist policies. By not letting the randos control the conversation
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Read it or don't. I was trying to answer your questions w/o further misunderstanding. If randos make Leftists look too scary, then Dems become the only "reasonable" vote by virtue of being in the middle. Oc, estab. dems are really just fascism lite, so a vote lost to a dem is ½ a vote for fascism.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
They are the political equivalent of the "Black Republicans" that FD talked about in his last video. Way more of a thing in political discussion than they are IRL, precisely becuase they are a useful straw man that Rs and Ds can use to make leftist ideas look bad to voters who don't know better.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
The online left is about dunking on folks, and generally acting a fool. They don't organize or community build, they alienate for clicks. They also garner the most attention becuase Rs and Ds like to use them as poster children for the flaws of leftist policy. These are the folks who talk too much.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Leftists online, are folks who happen to be online, and to be leftists. They tend to live their politics outside of the internet to the extent they can. They are about community building, social aide, etc. These are the folks that should be handed the microphone more.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
For most Americans, "Leftist" = "Communist" = "Socialist" = "Anarchist". WE know those are different things, but most Americans don't. So when someone acts a fool and either claims to be one of these things, or is labeled as one by others, the ideas these words represent are lost in the noise.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
I grew up KNOWING that Communism is Bad. Full stop. I never knew what it was, only that my culture said it was bad. After all, half the movies I saw were about the US defeating Communism. OC, the communism of leftist writings, & the communism of USSR are not the same , but most don't know that
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
No, that is not what I am saying. Communists should advocate for communism. The unhinged thing doesn't make you want to be a Nazi, specifically, but it makes the left look just as unhinged as Nazis to those ignorant of what leftism actually means, because of a century of anti-left disinformation.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
The net effect is to help scare less aware folks away from more extreme change that is needed. Which leads them to the establishment Dems, who's whole shtick is "we are not extreme, we are the adults in the room". Which is BS, but it works.
crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
Rs don't follow, but they do bring up the more ridiculous examples of what the "online left" say and go "see, this is what THEY are advocating for! How can you be so dumb" when talking with less leftist folks who are flirting with leftist ideas. Rs don't care about looking dumb, but most ppl do.

crmarvin.bsky.social (@crmarvin.bsky.social) reply parent
The online left does have an impact. By being so dumb in their hot takes and dog piling, they make leftism look crazy, and validate the “find a middle ground (with fascists)” approach of establishment Dems. They are a boogie man that Rs and Ds use to reinforce “do nothing” policies
