The book on Heidegger? If so, yes, it is quite good and it sucks that Heidegger was such an awful, awful person because I think a lot of his philosophy (to the extent I can get it) was really brilliant. I think his arguments about embodiment are really strong.

Constitutional protections for the minority who choose to live in dying rural areas of course, but no weighing the scales in their favor. Alas, hard to see us having the opportunity to make those changes without a lot of suffering & harm first.
In a proper democracy where the senate & electoral college weren’t features of the constitutional system giving rural areas far more power per capita than cities & suburbs these problems would largely take care of themselves. The majority would decide policy & resource distribution.
I can’t totally disavow my liberal tendencies to be empathetic & look for common humanity, but I think that friend was right: A lot of rural America is actually profoundly toxic & will deeply damage your soul or even kill you if you don’t fully fit in with their curdled, xenophobic culture.

Oregon voted by just shy of 70% in 1998 to go to exclusively vote by mail and it’s worked great. It would probably be approved by about the same margin if put to a vote again & every single person voting against it would be an Eastern Oregonian who wants to secede and join Idaho anyways.
Here in Oregon we voted in 1998 by 69.4% to move to exclusive vote by mail. It is extremely popular here. 7 other states have since moved to do the same. It works really well. Trading it away is not something any Democrat should be willing to countenance.
Oregon has been exclusively vote by mail for coming up on 30 years. I genuinely think that a concerted effort by the federal government to take it from us is a sign to start making serious secession plans.
