Part of the problem with proof is the bias in people's heads about what is and isn't proof. Atheists tend to very biased about it.

I agree, but I think you're idealism needs some balance. The people who wrote those books, for example, had limitations and biases. These histories were not written by the tribes people. Many ancient accounts were written as propaganda and leave out events that are negative for them.
