But it’s worth thinking for a second about the problems the current moment poses to any leader of an LEA who actually cares about adherence to a code of behavior. Because of course the public won’t believe him and there’s nothing he can do.
I think it’s worth remembering that there’s been a culture split within policing for a while between people (often leadership) who see professionalism as an important value and people (often low-level) who see it as impermissible and dangerous restraint. Obviously the latter won at the fed level.

If you were looking at things that way, you might spend several weeks laying the groundwork for something, so that a) you had time to proactively, privately get buy-in and b) it felt like a payoff. Which…is consistent with what we can see rn.
