The sad part is that most ICE employees (especially the influx of new ones) are GS-5 to GS-7... which means, depending on where they are, their salaries are only like $30k-$60k. Sure, they can do OT and have other benefits... but who'd a thunk selling one's soul could be so cheap?

The thing that irritates me is that despite all of Musk’s BS, Tesla stock has stayed pretty consistent. Sure it dropped a little (less than you’d expect) this spring but then spiked back up to where it normally was or slightly higher. Something doesn’t smell right, but I can’t explain it.

And the best part, as someone with a degree in political science, is that liberalism and conservatism are treated generally as polar opposites in the US. They’re not! Liberal conservatism is a thing that really exists. Reagan and Thatcher were famously very conservative but also neoliberal.

Google says the average rent for a 1BR apartment in L.A. is around $2000/month. Meaning that after taxes, insurance premiums, etc are taken out, over half that $50k/year paycheck is going just to rent.

They pay for insurance under programs like FEHB. $50k = $24/hour or $36/hr OT. To make just $20k gross, they’d have to work over 550 hours of OT in a year. That’s a ton of OT, fam, and burnout is real. I used to be a GS-11 (not at ICE) and I routinely did over 400 a year and got super burnt out.
