I'm a little late on this but if anybody in comics, and let's be real, /especially/ somebody who doesn't draw them, says let's embrace AI? they're a traitor and a scab and should never be trusted /ever/ again by the people who actually put the work in to making this genre and industry worth anything

Pre social media, I was on this message board called The Stump. It was mostly TV writers and actors. They used to talk about their favorite reality tv shows. They loved them. Huge superfans. I finally wrote “this is like listening to a bunch of dinosaurs gush over the pretty meteor.” Same energy.
Sigh. I would have liked to write Nick Fury someday.

Pro-tip: if you’re an editor at a comics company — any size! — don’t “play around” with generative AI. We know you know artists, and given your position, you can likely get them to make whatever you want at a price you can afford. No one should need to explain to you what an awful look this is.
I’ve seen people commit to this bit when their “correction” is 100 comments deep in the thread, and they get super mad at every new person showing up to say “this is fucked.” The original post will always be the most seen, and if it’s misinformation it’s poison.
The GOP has been racist since the 1960s, and any candidate it has put forward nationally has endorsed — explicitly or tacitly — the Southern Strategy. If HW wasn’t racist you wouldn’t know the name Willie Horton. A man who allows racism to elect him can’t be called “not racist.”
The downside: most people will see the misinformation and there’s no guarantee they scroll down for the corrections. Deleting your mistakes is good. You’re free to make a new post with the correct information. Just one man’s opinion, of course.

Wahlberg is a red line for me. Love Shane Black, but I’ll never see this movie. There is no replacement for Lee Marvin, who still defines this character for me. Could Chris Evans play a man with no basic decency? Craig could do it but as you say… it wouldn’t be far enough from Bond.

I first read that word in the liner notes of the Star Wars* soundtrack album, and pronounced it wrong forever… never heard it out loud. *back when this could only refer to one two-LP album.

The next step was figuring out a mystery for them to solve... and I thought about crime in NYC in that period… which suggested a certain famous serial killer, and a certain famous Conan Doyle story about a certain terrifying dog… I’d never written Holmes and Watson before, and it was great fun.

The trade paperback has been out for about a year, and that covers issues 1-4, plus the pictured in-universe Ragdolls comic, and some other fun stuff. It's currently coming out (slowly) from Image, and issue 8 dropped last week. Right now we're aiming for a total of 12 (I'm writing #12 right now.)
Thanks! It does. So I co-created this comic with Kevin Eastman called DRAWING BLOOD, about a comics creator with a career roughly analogous to his. The Ragdolls are the main character's creation (Shane Bookman), and that's the cover of our in-universe comic.

Thanks! I’m glad you like them and I appreciate you sticking with them from the beginning. I worry sometimes that I lean more into the comedy than the horror. In the Lovecraft series I tried to really bring the cosmic horror as much as the jokes.
I’m hoping it’s something I’m going to be working on soon. The chaos with Diamond distributors (RIP) slowed everything down for a bit, but we’re coming out of it now.
There’s a Harley Quinn Meets Elvira series coming out very soon. I didn’t write it, but I’m an editor on it. After that, I have a couple of pitches that Dynamite has approved and I’m waiting to hear which one we’re doing first. It might be the one teased at the end of Lovecraft.

By high school (1980-1983) I had a handful of gay friends. None of them were “out” but also anyone paying attention knew.
SOAP is actually kind of a masterpiece. A hilarious satire of soap operas that also functions as a moving and emotional soap opera.
Dad was born in 24 and I think he’s a child of the progressivism of the 30s more than the attitudes of the 70s, but your point stands. People sometimes forget WW2 was fought by guys who elected FDR in landslides.

I think probably the first gay characters I saw on screen were Roger Debris and Carman Ghia in THE PRODUCERS, and then Jody on SOAP. Roger and Carman were cartoons, but so is everyone else in that movie.
