Nope. A "tankie" is an 1970s-style pro-Russian socialist. ("One who loves Soviet tanks.") Right now I can't think of a worse attitude for a socialist to have when Russia wants to become a fascist empire again.

The mechanism of tariffs is flawed even when targeted at businesses that you want to force to do something: You specifically hurt their domestic customers and hope that the pain influences their choice of seller. (Here, it's resuming manufacturing at home; the lead-time to set up a factory and its

The super-rich have been running anti-taxation scams since roughly forever. (In this case, the East India Company's 24-or-so directors, at least until the Crown took over in 1859.) It might be instructive to work out who's playing the same old tricks.

Definitely Over Thirty (@definitelyover30.bsky.social) reply parent
In the case of chess and go, all the rules and mechanics are known to the player ahead of time. Whereas - if memory serves me - in the original "Rogue" even potion types were randomised on restart (and their effects were certainly hidden), so key mechanics have to be learned through experimentation

Definitely Over Thirty (@definitelyover30.bsky.social) reply parent
Rogue was released in 1980, and - as you've pointed out - many games have followed similar designs. But you're missing the point: While they aren't about ASCII, dungeons, and permadeath, the question I raised is very much about permadeath. Let's look at it from another angle: Is there a way for a

Definitely Over Thirty (@definitelyover30.bsky.social) reply parent
The first roguelike I played was Rogue. A key feature of that was non-optional permadeath - it did give its name to the genre. You may be thinking of roguelites, wherein you get to keep some progress through unlocks (even though you may have to start with a new character). As for how fast the game

Thesis: A roguelike game, or one raising the stakes through the "permadeath" mechanic, inherently cannot respect its player's time. This is because the only sanction it can apply to the player is forcing them to start from scratch, which means penalising them through loss of time. Thoughts?

There have been such predators throughout history, though different names for the same urges, and different levels of respectability, have been applied. That's why, as you wrote, preparing children to handle themselves is the only sensible way to proceed. (It's also the basic purpose of education.)
Definitely Over Thirty (@definitelyover30.bsky.social) reply parent
Some of them are just afraid because they have heard all the stories about predators working in social services or medicine or schools. All vice is virtue in excess, and all that, although there are almost certainly some others who are just dicks.
