I cannot believe VW didn't greenlight the Tanoak for production. Seemed like a no-brainer.

VW Q2 2025 sales down 29% YoY. IDK how they turn this ship around. VW better start coming up with fun, affordable products.
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social)
"Volkswagen blamed 'a challenging environment' after US sales fell 29% in Q2. The company sold 1,992 ID.4s and 564 ID.Buzz models during the quarter. The only Volkswagen model that had higher sales compared to the same period last year was the Golf R." Those numbers are abysmal. ID.Fail

Jay Leno moving to Austin, TX when?
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social) reply parent
Good question, you’d think an EV conversion would be an exemption, but that would be crazy if these were also noncompliant.
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social) reply parent
Lol, how does that work? So California is basically making classic cars illegal to drive, unless you do a modern powertrain restomod?
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social) reply parent
Otherwise, the number of these cars left on the roads, and the infrequency that classic collectible cars are driven, makes it pretty insignificant IMO.
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social) reply parent
“…would have exempted owners of classic cars manufactured before 1981 from having to pay to have them emissions tested every two years at a certified auto shop.” How do you emissions test early or pre-CARB vehicles? Are they to be compliant with regs from the year manufactured?
Dennie Edwards (@dennieedwards.bsky.social) reply parent
I remember how substantial the C4 looked in comparison to the outgoing C3. It’s crazy how much the C4 is dwarfed by modern Corvettes.

I mean, VW was making a massive push for the MK7 Golf (and TDI power) to go mainstream in America, Ford was churning out hot and hotter hatches, and hell froze over at Chevy, offering diesel Cruze sedans and hatchbacks. It was all a fever dream that ended abruptly.
