The problem with this whole """debate""" is no one is (apparently) willing to have an honest conversation about the reality, which is - we can't gain air parity (much less superiority) over the Strait, so - an air denial approach makes the most sense *for operational reasons*

I don’t think that he has any ideology beyond gaining personal power, plus he’ll be weaker vs congress, without the MAGA faithful to wield as a cudgel. That said, most probably they’ll just keep Trump alive as long as possible, even in a semi-vegetative state if needed.

I always get a laugh seeing this photo of Peter Thiel because it’s a crypto conference in April 2022. He said crypto was replacing fiat currency. He was then in the process of selling $1.8 billion of crypto before the crash of late 2022. We only learned about the timing of his sales much later.

Another point that I think of, that could have influenced the name of the 5th-they were supposed to operate independently of the railroad network, which was not possible for the panzer divisions, that were still dependent on the railheads-important issue in the North African theater.
Dominix (@dominix.bsky.social) reply parent
They were supposed to serve the old cavalry mission, so they may have received old cavalry regiments, but the plans to convert them to panzer divisions were made as early as 1938. Doctrinally they were supposed to be fully motorized formations that could make strategic movements by roads.
Dominix (@dominix.bsky.social) reply parent
Original ones were really weak, so yes. Probably someone had an idea that this new division should be highly mobile, for it’s intended role and that’s why they’ve got back to this name.
Dominix (@dominix.bsky.social) reply parent
(From Anderson’s The history of the panzerwaffe vol. 1)
Dominix (@dominix.bsky.social) reply parent
Not really cavalry by 1939-the idea was, that they were to be able to move quickly and far on roads, with light panzers on lorries. In Poland it turned out that that they were not that useful. There were 4 of them, so the 5th looks like a conscious continuation, at least when it comes to name.
