But makes some people furious that someone is getting something for nothing, so we somehow need “one more trial” before implementing it.

I feel like Australia or New Zealand should make a spy film where their job is to discretely save the world while the US and UK teams blow up everything under the sun, two countries over from where the real problems are.

My mom spent all weekend vacationing in a remote cabin that had no internet or TV. So on the one hand she didn't have to read the news for three days. On the other hand, she didn't get to speculate on the aliveness of the president all weekend, so I think she missed out.

My main memories of San Francisco are visiting friends, walking up the most ridiculous hills, and drinking far too much but it was OK because I was younger and invincible. The SF they're describing sounds wretched and un-fun.

The computers in the Apollo LEMs weighed 70 pounds, ran on 2MHz, and had hand-woven memory cores. Your average LLM has 100s of gigs of memory to use billions of parameters, and consumes the power of a house. Yet the latter cannot subtract one number from another and come up with the right answer.

YouTube threw on the fight theme from #XenobladeChronicles Future Connected as the next video in my queue. One of my personal favorite pieces of music from that series, combining disco, choir, and flute in an 8-minute extravaganza that I never heard the full version of until I got the soundtrack.

Asked at work about a genAI thing. The problem in building software is often not the building part. It's the "figuring out what the hell you want to build in the first place" part. All the technology in the world won't help if you're bereft of ideas or don't know what problem you want to solve.
