I think the thing that gets lost is that Fox, Newsmax, Breitbart, and the like have successfully trained Republicans to hate Democrats over the past 30 years. Conservatives now support anything that generates liberal tears. Meanwhile, the Democrats try to court these same voters. 1/

The Mirror is reporting the racist attack in Halifax like they're appalled. But when a man on a National Express from Bristol to London was bullied off it by racists for "looking shifty", they used an image of a flower seller in a Rajasthan market, captioned "Victim:" so you'd think "I can see why"

Yes, the UK is a democracy and even the racist, xenophobic fascists have a 'right' to express their opinions, bigoted and hate-fuelled though they are. But @news.sky.com has been a major platform for the far-right Faragists for quite some time. It's almost is if #SkyNews wants them in power 🤔

It didn't stop news outlets talking about what he "will" do.. and what we "can" expect to see rather than "would"/"could" - as if it's a foregone conclusion he will be our next leader. They even compared his expression of an idea as something that "has gone much further" rather than "would go".

On any post about crime, someone will remind the OP crime isn't new. Then someone posts 'the Orwell quote'. But "evidence of your eyes and ears" means things we personally witness. Not "anything anyone anywhere has experienced & we've seen decontextualised via social media thanks to phones/CCTV."

I explained to the kids.. if an author hasn't told you a detail like the age, gender, or about the family of a character it can be tempting to search it up. But it's quite often and likely deliberate.. so we should go with feeling comfortable about looking for clues within what the text tells us..

It's much worse than before "over there"! There's not even any doubt about whether such people are talking in bad faith (rather then just never having thought about another perspective or being a little bit easily led by tabloid clichés). And their timelines are always filled with horrible views.

Significant… “Jaywalking” was a term invented in the 1920s in the US to deflect blame from motor vehicles then killing thousands of people annually. www.vox.com/2015/1/15/75...

A century of motonormativity! Add that to continued talk of "beaconisation", where having phone on (+GPS & data) & charged at all times becomes an expectation "to keep you safe". Reporting would join in, as with "wasn't wearing a bike helmet" (as if helmets prevent crashes, or absence causes them)

The fact self-driving car company bosses now talk about the problem/challenge of "levels of jaywalking" in the UK is a concern. They're clearly trying to talk it into existence so they can suggest authorities clamp down on it. GB News, Talk, Daily Mail etc are likely to let them get away with it

12 June 1929 | A German Jewish girl, Anne Frank, was born in Frankfurt. In 1942 on her 13th birthday she received an empty diary. She perished in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945. 'Human greatness does not lie in wealth or power, but in character & goodness.' (A.Frank)

This fantastic response is a comment under a story about a car parking charge increase in York.

I know this expression of hatred on X isn't new, but... whatever happened to broadcasters moderating social comments to remove expressions of hate and violence. There's references to execution on this feed. @mrjamesob.bsky.social I'd love to hear that topic discussed. x.com/BBCLondonNew...

I believe the research was undertaken during the last government... (although it may have been updated) but in any case that shouldn't suggest to anyone that it's going to be less of a problem under a leadership that is so concerned about appealing to Reform & Tory voters.

As a law-abiding person I have never considered that we need an "encouragement" to pay. Are people expecting praise, applause, rewards for doing so? Are some people actually looking for an excuse not to pay? Is crime "encouraged" by the fact you can 'get away with it' - if you are law-abiding?

X user @Talbotdolphin posts: So basically like shoplifting there is zero encouragement for law abiding citizens to pay. Be as well not paying and just letting shops public transport etc shut down! Like I said country encourages low level crime and dishonesty.

Astounds me that some people who lived through Bolsonaro era and saw the dismantling of agencies that protect, prevent, respond to and educate public & industry in relation to natural disasters and climate change STILL believe in him, when they've seen him deny what's happen because he can't face it

I'm loving it. Tried SO many apps and couldn't feel at home or find functionality I needed until I settled on UpNote. Huge credit to whoever created it. But ironically my fear is that "what if it gets screwed up" and adding unwanted AI interference would be exactly the kind of thing.

I wasn't, of course, referring to Ant Middleton (who was never even selected) when I mentioned the Reform candidate for London mayor. I was referring to real life actual Reform candidate Howard "Cox 4 London" (3%)... who took a little while longer than many to spot what others thought obvious:

I now think of "Broken Britain" more than I think of "Great Britain". Not because I'm failing as a patriot, but because I can't believe what other 'patriots' say. eg. this guy telling me that despite Ant Middleton's toxic rhetoric AND criminal record.. "I like him and think he'll be a good mayor"
