the juxtaposition reminded me of how much work there is to do to end shareholder primacy
I just think it's worth reiterating that this content free, vibes-based, know-nothing grievance based approach to election analysis was the thing Nate opposed in creating 538! Like, he has literally become the thing he started his career to oppose. It's amazing.
It is annoying for me because I don't actually believe in Central Bank independence, and she makes the worst case against it possible
She just very much thinks that everyone else should have shifted their own priorities in order to facilitate what she wanted to do, which is just not how an independent central banking system works
I still maintain (while respecting Toby's view) that this was containable enough that it shouldn't have been a regulatory priority. The BoE sorted it out in a week - it's not their fault somebody had their career at stake

As I think we've discussed before, they might have been able to smooth out the deleveraging at the very long end, but there's not much they could have done to stop the moves at the five and two year points which were the real political toxin

I will take the opportunity to resurrect an old debate with @tobyn.bsky.social over pension regulation. Which is simply to say that not every possible risk should be regulated out of existence! Pension funds had perfectly adequate capital levels for the pension related risks they faced...
