In all seriousness, a lot of STEM roles in the corp. world reward stripping down info and applications to produce X w/in externally set confines. Dudes (and it's usually dudes) think they're brilliant for making the machine go Brrr, but don't need to engage with whether Baaa is better.

Hey man. Some of us STEM people are humanities and creative kids who realized that stats or programming or physics or whatever paid better than our rockabilly klezmer groups. We need cash to fund our world myth book collections. But, yeah, we work with a lot of really dense "smart" people. A lot.

The Trumpist majority on SCOTUS, like Trump himself, is spending down a trust fund they did not create, apparently believing it refills automatically. But it doesn’t. The whole system depends on other key institutions treating their rulings as legitimate.

The United States is rapidly going fascist and is the most materially prosperous large nation in human history by a huge margin. If that’s not rich enough to prevent a fascist resurgence, there simply is no amount of wealth that will stave it off and the problem is social and political.

The city could authorize tons of block parties on the North and West Sides and people could just run out of gas or drive below the speed limit on the highways. Maybe there are some construction projects the state's been meaning to get to. I bet Oak Park and Evanston would go along.

pretty telling comment here. Britain and America absolutely did feed and clothe Nazi and Japanese POWs during WWII. and they provided food and supplies to occupied territories as the war was won. the Hunger Plan by contrast was a Nazi thing

Amid rising starvation in the Gaza Strip, an Israeli government minister said on Thursday that Israel had no duty to alleviate hunger in the territory and was seeking to expel its population. Amichay Eliyahu, a far-right lawmaker who leads Israel’s Heritage Ministry, said in a radio interview that “there is no nation that feeds its enemies,” adding that “the British didn’t feed the Nazis, nor did the Americans feed the Japanese, nor do the Russians feed the Ukrainians now.” He concluded that the government was “rushing toward Gaza being wiped out,” while also “driving out the population that educated its people on the ideas of ‘Mein Kampf,’” an antisemitic text written by Adolf Hitler.

Hey now, let's not elide the truth cookbooks and recipe sites do - chopping veggies is generally the most time consuming part of active cooking. But it can be done ahead. Fine couscous and bulgar wheat are huge time savers - it takes as long to prepare as boiling water + 1 minute.

All of these restaurants use frozen and premade food. He could buy a chest freezer and stuff it with the most expensive frozen foods from Whole Foods and still come out ahead.

The new Jubilee video is like 15 racists vs one journalist or something and all the racists are using it to get big Twitter followers and I’m begging people to understand that this is not a media entity operating with anyone’s best interest in mind

Is DSA part of the Dem Party? Neither they nor the Justice Dems say they are.

I'm looking down at my shoes as I say, it was his review of Friedman's The World is Flat that hooked me. Well, it made me laugh a lot. To be fair, his finance reporting was better than most back then.

Not to brag, but I don't have fleas, don't breathe carcinogenic smoke all day, stay warm at night, fuck who I want, and survived delivery of a breach baby. Why the fuck would I trade places with a medieval queen?

I mean more like a story of "woman in Regency England gets time machine and is overjoyed at being able to earn her own money and date without the burden of her family starving if she doesn't find husband"

Do you think it would get national or broad statewide coverage? I'm skeptical it would be more than a tree falling in a forest situation.

I made a decision to not click on anything that purports to show his words. This is for two reasons - one is because it's pointless, and the other s not to reward anyone who makes money from sharing his words.

"He's correct here." Yeah, like he's correct when he says the sky is blue or tells you the time or notes that it's been really hot this summer.

The underlying assumption of that is: it's unacceptable for girls/women to outperform boys/women. It gets tiring for wmn who hear constantly that the inverse is the natural order of things. That's different from loneliness, which I understand to be equal btwn genders. So why the attention to men?

My recollection of watching adults dancing in the 80s (parental age, white, but urban and too cool to look Yuppie) was a lot of sliding one foot to the other while clapping in time. Occasional single knee dips opposite a raised shoulder or hand.

Really looking forward to the inversion under a Democratic administration when all national policy can be held up by a single judge in Amarillo and the U.S. Supreme Court allows it for ~~reasons~~ ACA mandates, ACA funding, student debt, gay rights, bump stock conversion bans, you name it

Sorry, I meant Oz' methodology - this piece was very clear. He talked about how small the sample of Medicaid CPS respondents who also were also TUS respondents is miniscule - so perhaps his results are suggestive rather than conclusive. But very interesting. I thought ACS tracked Medicaid, not sure.

If I had to guess, I'd say the TV number is at the household level, and "able bodied" means a household member who is not formally disabled. If they're being generous, they might limit to someone between the ages of 18 and 67 who aren't disabled.
