That elides quite a bit of history. Trust did take a hit during Vietnam and Watergate, but it fluctuated after that for a few decades and then spiked after 9/11. It was Iraq, Katrina, and 2008 that caused it to fall off the cliff.

A lot of them are fellow veterans like myself, so we discuss a lot of times our military experience and keep political discussions to a minimum. I don’t want to unaffiliate with folks because of their politics. That’s why again I keep my own politics to myself most of the time.

The only success in the second term was the nuclear deal with Iran that Trump scrapped in his first term. Most foreign policy experts in the US graded Obama’s second term foreign policy as poor/disastrous.

His first term was a little more successful than his second term. But all the issues in the second term with Syria, ISIS, and Ukraine were really bad.

Crimea was annexed during Obama’s second term. Donbas was invaded shortly after Crimea. The criticism @tatarigami.bsky.social has on Obama was that he didn’t provide military aid to Ukraine and the sanctions were weak in 2014. But Europe also shares some blame, particularly Germany.

I love Obama, but on Ukraine he’s right. Very weak handling and not particularly not providing military aid when the Russo-Ukraine war was limited to the eastern Donbas only helped embolden Putin years later.
