I will also sometimes give a bit of pill pocket sans pill as a treat, so they have positive associations.
If you have trouble with that going forward, my vet had a tip for me. Sometimes the nasty taste of the pill transfers from your fingers to the pill pocket. Either make sure your fingers don’t touch the pill before wrapping it in the yummy pill pocket, or wash your hands between.

Having to make a difficult decision that will hurt someone no matter which way it goes. Writing a letter to explain the decision, which will likely be a surprise (it really shouldn’t be, but denial is a helluva drug). There will probably be fallout. This is not how I wanted to spend my weekend. 😞
I block them too. There are so many scammers that use tragedy to take advantage of soft-hearted people, and there’s no way to know who’s real. (Also there are finite resources but an infinite number of worthy causes. I donate to those I know I can trust, when I’m able.)

As many people have pointed out in the comments, the rules of etiquette/politeness are different for in-person vs. asynchronous communication. You wouldn’t write a snail-mail letter with just “Hi.”
For the love of sanity, do NOT just say “Hi” in a DM or text. If you’re a stranger, I’ll assume you’re a bot/scammer & ignore/block you. If I know you, this raises my anxiety level (OMG what happened / what do they want?) & wastes my time waiting for the next message. Say hi AND why you’re texting.
You’re taking up their time either way, and with asynchronous communication (like in text form), you’re taking up LESS of their time if you just say your piece. Niceties + Reason For Texting (in the same message) = Way Less Annoying and Time Consuming (and way more likely to get a response at all).
