It was cool when there were no ads. Then it wasn't that bad when there'd maybe be one ad before a video. Then it became more annoying when there were two ads. Once they started putting multiple commercials in multiple breaks during a single short video, it became worthless. SmartTube rocks.
Over time it became less and less until eventually one day I just stopped. I didn't have to tell them about or do anything in particular at all beyond simply not opening the app any more. Again, I'm fully aware that I was VERY fortunate to have that luxury and know that others don't.
In what world would someone who had entire weeks where they worked maybe two hours in total would still be entitled to benefits? The beauty of Lyft was that I could do it or NOT do it EXACTLY as much as I wanted to. Sometimes that was a lot, sometimes it was hardly at all.
But my curiosity is genuine in that I really would like to know if I was unusual. The few other drivers I talked to felt the same as I did, but it was a meaninglessly small sample.
I had already retired and was doing it very casually for a few extra bucks when I was in the mood. If I had been forced into minimum hours or had to deal with anything else that threatened the casual nature of it I'd have quit immediately. But I'm sure my situation was unusual and privileged.

I have to be pedantic and point out that in the *audio* world it was easy to find reel and cassette decks with separate record and play heads. That allowed you to listen to the actual TAPE while recording it (with a slight delay, of course). Extremely useful in the analog world.
MiniDisc was amazing for its time. Too bad Sony screwed up by trying to sell it as a CD replacement when it was really a cassette replacement. And they MASSIVELY downplayed its editing capabilities. At the time, making CDs at home was expensive and had a real learning curve.
