And, in order to move into an apartment in NYC you have to prove that you earn something like 40% of your rent each year. So even a “cheap” apartment requires you to have quite a lot of money. Cuomo must not know how renting works in the city he wants to run.
And, the real gift of a rent stabilized apartment is not how cheap it is (not all are) but it’s that the landlords can’t double your rent and force you out. The rent goes up each year by pre-determined percentages. That gives renters some security around their home. Everyone should have that.
