I've never lived in NYC, but I have a lot of family there, and what's always stood out to me is how people can come from anywhere in the world, build a little bubble of people from Home, and then rarely leave it. Most cities aren't big enough for that many bubbles.

I grew up in the DC area, and live in Baltimore now. DC now is very safe if you're aware of your surroundings; I'm much more worried about reckless drivers speeding through residential areas than of anyone walking around.

I genuinely like BWI. ATX is good at non-rush times, but hopelessly understaffed during the holidays. BOS is very conveniently located now that they fixed the planes-overshooting-the-runway-into-the-water problem. ROC is the calmest airport I've ever been to.

Re crime in DC, I used to live in DC and I went down to the fish market in SW once, and got a little lost off the metro. Two kids on BMX bikes asked if I wanted to buy any crack and I said “no thanks but can you tell me where the fish market is?” and they said of course and gave me good directions.

For a family with kids that's an upper middle class household income in most of the US, and a middle class household income in the high cost of living cities. For a single person with no dependents it'd be a very comfortable salary, maybe heading towards "rich" with the right investments

Greek X in general usually gets pronounced as 'k'/"kai" in US English, I assume for reasons of how schools that taught Classical Greek went about doing so for the past century or two. It's particularly noticeable in college fraternity names.

In some loanwords that are widely used, yes (i.e. loch, challah, chutzpah, etc) , but in the US only a pedant would expect people to apply that to epoch. I guess I've heard /ipɔx/, but /ipɔk/ or /ɛpɔk/ are more common
