Exactly! After that I realized ANY movie could be good, and I shouldn’t just dismiss one because it looked old or weird or wasn’t, you know, STAR WARS.
When I was a 13 or so my Dad came into my room and told me to put on PBS. It was showing STALAG 17. It was old and black and white I had no interest. He insisted it was great and I should check it out. I shrugged and within five minutes I was hooked. I never looked at movies the same way again.

It's in the middle of this great little neighborhood and I already imagined all sorts of cross promotional ideas with the other stores.
My wife stumbled across a charming old timey movie theater in a small Florida town yesterday, which only seems to be open a few times during the summer. While I generally always wish I was rich, this was one of those times I REALLY wish I was, so I just buy it and run movies all year long.
The people who would care about this already know, but the piano player in REAR WINDOW is the same guy from Alvin and the Chipmunks.

When I was a kid reading THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS over and over I would imagine what a movie version of this would look like and cast George Carlin as the ancient Green Arrow.
I discovered it during my video store clerking days in the 90s and I've watched it at least once a year since.
My love of I, CLAUDIUS is long and deep. Always glad to find someone else appreciates it like I do!

The book purposely keeps Larry out of the main action for most of it; we only really get glimpses of him via Maugham, which the 1946 movie replicates. The 1984 version doesn't have SM in it all, making Larry the main character. An understandable choice by the filmmakers, but IMO not as effective.
This is my favorite book of all time. I like both movie versions, despite their flaws. The 1946 version adheres more closely to the book, which in many ways is inherently uncinematic.

When I worked at Borders (2006-2011), the Christian section was filled with books by former Hollywood "elites" whose careers had gone belly up, and were now writing hardcover books ($24.95 SRP) breathlessly dishing to their new right wing fans just how awful that Hollyweird place really was.
