Packed the wound with neosporin, covered it with an appropriate bandage, and then told him to make sure he keeps it clean. He added a layer of duct tape over the top and went back outside. 🙄
I went to get the first aid bin and came back to see him preparing to “clean” the wound with a dishrag of uncertain vintage and tap water. Stopped him. Made him sit down and deal with it as I cleaned the wound with actual sterile solution intended for that purpose and sterile gauze.

20 year old son finally stepped up and learned to use the chainsaw to help his father (suffering greatly from chronic pain) cut up the logs we had delivered for firewood. And he tweaked himself in the shin with the saw just now. Pants took most of the damage but he had a lovely laceration.

Diabetes doesn't do that. Kidney and heart failure do. And yes, diabetes could cause either or both, but he'd have to have gone undiagnosed & untreated for a very long time, and I just don't see how that's possible. Diagnosed with diabetes but lied about it? Yes. Not diagnosed or treated? No.
