Agreed. Case in point - an entertaining thread that’s been going for 15 years where ppl theorise and comment on the film Memento. There are new posts every so often and they’re mostly reasonable and informed. And the civility of it all feels like it’s from another era.

The Zimmer score and the Scott quip in the opening scene (re Cruise’s constant grinning) help a little to cover the preening and silliness. But surely just the fact that Woo could do what he did in such a big franchise was impressive. Never bothered with Paycheck.
I agree on M:I-2’s script, but what about the shooting style? The balletic ‘raid on Biocyte’ scene and the clever motorbike chase at the end are ones to savour, in my view. And just the way Woo fetishises Cruise’s features…
