I avoid this doubt by knowing in my heart that I'm not a grown adult man who has moved beyond childishness. That deeply held belief is then bolstered when I laugh out loud at stuff like this.

I grew up eating raw oysters out of the Appalachicola Bay, which was 70 miles away. They were so cheap when I was a teen and into my 20s. Nowadays, it's rare for me to eat a raw one and I won't be doing that anytime soon while this flesh eating bacteria is common in the area.
I get my version of this most often at the little grove where the Tree of Life is at Audubon Park. I love any place where I can sit among moss covered live oaks, though.

I can't recommend enough that you (anyone) watch Harry Shearer's 2010 documentary "The Big Uneasy", which lays a lot of the blame, rightfully, at the Army Corps of Engineers' feet. I just re-watched it today. He has done a 2025 re-release and has it for free on his youtube channel.

I have a very fancy electric bidet in my place in Atlanta. Once I went with a bidet, I couldn't go back. I have installed cheaper versions of the Tushy in both of my New Orleans apartments over the last few years and even backed this as a kickstarter when I was spending summers in a camper.

It's actually not a great point. The Soviets mostly wanted to maintain their own separate sphere of influence and when the Nazis reneged on the non-aggression pact, they took losses that would have sent the US military running home. Stalin was a monster, but the people of the USSR won that war.
