finding additional portraits may be trickier than I thought
oh hey I know where the first shown portrait is stored, and I can search the ROM for additional portraits easily now. I just need to modify the ROM to shove every other portrait into the first portrait shown, then run the game until it shows that portrait for me, then screenshot
maybe I should try breaking the game and see what changes
portrait, not portal. that's a different game, and I haven't added either of them to the death generator
Kinda worked! I loaded a different portal, it just didn't 100% load correctly. I think there's a separate pattern index or something...
might have figured out a way. 50/50% it works or I crash the emulator
I've figured out some parts of how the dialogue system works but not yet how to get out the other portraits

and while trying to figure out who does own it, I found an article with an amazing search-replace-typo: "2002dfx"
I'm not actually sure nvidia owns the name. nvidia acquired much of 3dfx (in 2000), but not everything, and the remaining bits went bankrupt in 2002. perhaps the name was still owned by them up to the end.
it was a bit of both. nvidia acquired a lot of the company and the rest went bankrupt. I think nvidia mainly got rights to algorithms and silicon, it's possible I'm wrong and they don't own the name
