I've got however much data you need

there's exactly one inviter — whose relation to the bsky team I'm still curious about — who I'd guess is (totally inadvertently) at the root of about 90% of what makes the culture here annoying, but nuking their invite tree would take out like a million users at this point, myself included

how did the "politician speaks with half a dozen people of varying relevance to the topic grimacing behind them" thing even start

NJB got run off this website for saying this but I think we're going to come to agree with him more than we'd like in time
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
yeah the problem is that that only applies to content that bluesky moderation sees though, all content not identifying as bluesky content, you're on your own there is automated tooling from, like, cloudflare I think? that ought to be enough? odd that no one has really tried yet afaik

it's made much worse, I think, by the non-existence of the NDP 1993-1997 would make for a good point of comparison as to whether this is standard or if it's purely a product of the modern media environment

yeah, "special constables", though according to google they have the same powers as regular cops
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
waterloo does, never seen them around unless called though

although "absurd opex" is not all that absurd in a US context given the even more absurd capex explosion
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
the issue with buses over light rail in high income countries is that the margin in ridership between "need dedicated bus infra" and "absurd opex/literally can't get enough drivers" is not all that large

gpt-3.5 with a couple of basic MCP servers & trained on whatever agentic browsing data current models are using would've met just about everyone's standard for "AGI" that existed right up until models could actually do those things
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
well yeah we obviously have AGI by the standard of any previous generation, it's just interesting that we continue to decide otherwise & that we're able to combine the entire denial process into the time between BERT and xxxB MoE models
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
what does any of this have to do with my post
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
I mean yeah "if you dumb down the thinking machine enough you can stuff it in a pocket supercomputer & it'll finish your sentences for you" is only as unremarkable as it is because it was achieved so incrementally, allowing us enough time to move the goalposts on intelligence each step of the way

they're certain the next election is theirs to lose, like this one was if not for trump they're not even necessarily wrong, but they've got plenty of time to drive poilievre's approval down further into the gutter

took me a month+ fwiw, so probably not a huge help unfortunately but it's something requires you to first apply for the disability tax credit, which annoyingly your physician can't bill the government for, unlike provincial paperwork, so it's out of pocket gets you up to $200 a month though

ODSP I assume? the system sucks ass, maddening to hear. any chance you're able to apply for the federal CDCP and get the dental work done through that?

goddamnit now my personal branding sans serif is the fascist sans because some doge lackey has good taste in typefaces (neue montreal)

I don't think geoblocking APIs is something that's likely to happen anytime soon — and if it does, the easier solution would still be a proxy I'm not saying replicating data is useless 100% of the time, but it absolutely is right now
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
you can just access appviews that already exist via a different client, no point in running a new copy
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
okay yeah that part balances it out closer to no value maybe, but every future appview copy is still negative value
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
what does running a copy of the bluesky appview have to do with that
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
who said anything about consumer-grade or occasionally? a dozen a6000s colocated is cheaper per token than each in a different machine in a different place, how is this even up for debate

futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
that stuff seems to have peaked in 2021 actually, getting a rubioesque charisma void to steal their thunder and then flop in the election is a pretty big hindrance

hm I suppose this is tough to quantify, my subjective experience has just been that the us polling industry is much less cutthroat, here there's constantly firms spawning & dying & trying to prove themselves maybe also that there's a much bigger % of the us where an x% swing isn't as important?
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
ty 😊
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
ah of course @shreyanjain.net can you log into zeppelin and load your timeline and see if that kills your pds

futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
good luck & sorry you have to do this
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
even so, it seems like the us polling industry basically stops existing outside of ongoing elections, & the volume of competition is much weaker than in countries a fifth of the size everywhere below the federal level
futur (@futur.blue) reply parent
ivr polls (the cold calling type) are the most accurate kind here though, the american polling industry just has a skill issue

yeah, by "quickbuild" in this case I mean the low concrete dividers specifically & agree! this mirrors my ped experience so far, where the lows tend to be lower than toronto but the highs are much more thoughtfully executed
