I believe that was my point in talking about having raised a kid to understand the larger world rather than just what she learned in school. That said, a lot of parents don't have that ability for many reasons. My original comment to this thread was facetious, and I graduated a bit before 95.

World history was still required when/where I was in HS. I raised a kid where it no longer was, and I made sure she learned some world history and US history beyond the pilgrims. I was not going to have her not know that there are other places and ways of being.

I'm sorry you did as well. I have little tolerance for people who voted for him, no matter who they are. Trump has always stated what he is, even in the 80s, and he does it in a way that people think he doesn't mean what he says. Classic abuser behavior.

I'm so sorry it happened to you, too. You are correct. The abuser always goes on. When he died a few years ago, it was the first night I felt any relief. For me, the biggest betrayal was that my mother turned her back and blamed me until the day she died. This, too, happens often.

Mom is wearing two braids and has long dark blond hair. She's wearing a white t-shirt also with cartoon characters depicting Gemini. There are calendars and a large US map on the wall.

I've moved a lot, but Utah is where I grew up. It's home, and I love southern Utah. Recently, I did a set of four drawings of some of my favorite places in the state. They're for sale on my Etsy store here, if you want a print or a mug. They look good on a mug, man... www.etsy.com/shop/Surpris...

A greyscale drawing of Delicate Arch in Utah. The foreground and the arch are in black. The background is done in increasingly lighter shades of gray. There are whispers of clouds in the sky. A greyscale drawing of Druid Arch in Utah. The foreground and the arch are in black. The sky is white, and is streaked with grey clouds. A greyscale drawing of the Three Sisters hoodoo in Goblin Valley State Park. The foreground and the hodoo are in black. The background is done in increasingly lighter shades of gray. The sky is white, and the clouds are grey like lint that's been stretched and discarded. Black, white, and grey drawing of the sun moving westward over the outlines of mountains. A lake spreads out at the base the mountains. Grey strips of clouds cut across the sun and sky like bits of kitten-torn tissue.

Eels are classic. And also classical! In fact, they're the only fish mentioned by name in Homer's Iliad. In Book 21, Achilles kills a Trojan in the River Scamander. Like ya do. And immediately, the eels begin to nibble on the dead man's kidneys. Nibble. 'Cause eels are dainty. 🗃️🧪

Meme. Ancient Greek-style art of 2 warriors fighting in front of a wall, with the Trojan horse in the background. The scene is orange tinted, with the warriors in black. The warrior on the right wears a shield, helmet, & a swashbuckling cloak. He holds a spear is lunging forward to stab his opponent. The warrior on the left has no armor. He has an arrow in his ankle, and so is probably Achilles. He has a sword raised, but it's not going to help. He's about to be stabbed, and he can't even reach his foe. The scene looks very much like a Mortal Combat level. Behind the men are the walls of the city, with the head of a giant horse rearing above the wall. It seems to watching the fight like a Pokemon battle. It's muzzle points towards the warrior on the right as if to say,

Junior faculty and grad students in political science, history, law, and Native American Studies, come take a class with us at the New York Historical Society (and via Zoom) on Native Peoples, American Colonialism, and the U.S. Constitution. To apply, Institute for Constitutional History: 1/2

Native Peoples, American Colonialism, and the US Constitution Fall 2025 Session Presented in person at The New York Historical and via Zoom* Meeting Dates & Times: Fridays, November 7 and 21, December 5 and 12, 2025 | 11 am–2 pm ET Instructors: Maggie Blackhawk, Ned Blackhawk SEMINAR DESCRIPTION: As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this seminar invites a critical examination of a central paradox in American constitutional history: how can a nation celebrate a founding document and constitutional tradition built, in part, on the dispossession of Indigenous homelands? From the Founders’ long-standing relationships with Native nations to the grievances lodged regarding ‘merciless Indian savages’ into the Declaration, Indian affairs and westward expansion were foundational to the creation and evolution of the US Constitution. The Northwest Ordinance laid the “blueprint for empire” for federal imperial expansion from thirteen states clinging to the Eastern seaboard to a nation that stretched “from sea to shining sea,” while the United States Constitution excluded “Indians not taxed” from American polity—in so doing, also codifying the specific subordination of a people by name within constitutional text. Despite this deep entanglement, Native history remains marginalized within the fields of constitutional history and mainstream constitutional scholarship. This seminar explores emerging historical and legal literature that re-centers Native peoples and American colonialism in the narrative of US constitutional development. Topics include the role of Native peoples and “Indian affairs” in the Constitution’s initial drafting and ratification and the legal architecture of colonial expansion. The seminar will also explore how centering Native peoples allows for a rethinking of United States constitutional history and American public law more broadly.

We need only look past the romanticized Camelot version of his family to see why he has these ideas.

As a disabled Hispanic and CSA survivor, I have similarities to your circumstances. I don't have the luxury of getting along with people who vote in a known predator, a deranged HHS Secretary, and a racist cabinet. I can't ignore politics and sing happy songs while playing games with them.

When my daughter was 2, I remarried. My husband knew there would be no other kids. He jumped in with both feet and was a proud Girl Dad. Men are often distant with daughters here. She's 32, now and they remain very close. The fact is he also chose her when he married me, and that isn't as common.

Definitely, and Boba Feet is the sheriff of this block. Those vans always drive away when he borks and it can be felt through the ground.

My boy is the bork instigator. He will stand in the middle of the yard, and if it's quiet, he will let out one deep woof, and the whole neighborhood Bork Dorks will start up. The Biggest Beastie Bork Dork:

Large black tan and white German Shepherd Boxer mix in his chair. He is on his side with all of his big paws hanging over. His head is turned to his left, and he has his tongue out. He looks like a Medieval beastie in a manuscript.

"Iran style moral policing" is that like saying "Christian Taliban"? Trying to shame your own by demonizing another is pretty gross.

Exactly. Russia's National Archive was destroyed over decades of environmental neglect once Stalin closed it. It wasn't until Gorbachev's era that they began to reconstruct files and needed international help with filling gaps for accuracy.

Thank you 🐾 I never shied away from letting her learn what I was learning and would explain things at her level. I took her to sign with Washoe and the other chimps when she was about 4, and she had a lot of fun.

I was in college, so my daughter grew up learning about different anthropology theories and anthropologists. Debating with my 3-year-old while sitting on the toilet is a memorable experience 🤣 She's 32 now and is studying language pathology, so pontificating from the throne was worth it 💁‍♀️

The "Epstein thing" is that children were sexually assaulted repeatedly. Reducing that fact to "thing" diminishes them. Children were raped that fact needs to be remembered. I'm a CSA survivor, I sat in a witness chair at 9yrs old. Even though the jury was hung, it wasn't a pointless "thing."
