We strengthened prevailing wage protections for workers on public projects. We’re going to keep fighting for Washington’s workers. Happy Labor Day!

We have a lot to celebrate today. Washington was recently named one of the best states in the nation for workers. This year, we strengthened laws protecting youth in the workforce. We created a more level playing field for bargaining workers.

There were #WinsForWorkers who are immigrants, too: A new law stops employers from making immigration-related threats to stop workers from exercising their rights. Another allows workers to use sick leave to deal with immigration proceedings. #LaborDay lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/202...

The Trump Administration’s attacks on safety net programs like SNAP harm our most vulnerable Washingtonians, all to pay for tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. This is not just morally wrong. It harms Washington’s economy and puts a strain on other programs that support our kids.

Important victory in our fight for affordability and jobs. As Governor, I was proud to stand with labor and business to file a brief in this case. It’s important to make sure Washington’s voice is heard as one of the most trade-dependent states in the nation.

Today I’m declaring an emergency due to the closure of the White River Bridge. The bridge is a critical lifeline to these communities, and we are doing all we can to get it reopened as quickly as possible.

Proclamation by the Governor on White River Bridge Damage. WHEREAS, on August 18, 2025, the White River Bridge on State Route 410 between Buckley and Enumclaw was severely damaged after being struck by a semi-truck in multiple locations along the bridge at milepost 22 which borders King and Pierce counties; and WHEREAS, the damage sustained to the bridge on State Route 410 impacted both the horizontal and vertical components of the bridge; and WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation took emergency measures, revising travel lanes to restrict traffic from traveling over the bridge in both directions. King County authorized the use of the Foothills Trail bridge for emergency response vehicles, while damage assessments are being conducted and repair plans are made; and WHEREAS, repairs and necessary closures were approved by the Washington State Secretary of Transportation. These emergency conditions caused immediate serviceability concerns and significantly reduced the lifespan of the bridge. The estimated cost to repair the damage from the collision could exceed $2,000,000; and WHEREAS, the Washington State Department of Transportation immediately started coordinating resources to repair the roadway and working to implement repairs; and WHEREAS, the bridge damage and its effects continue to impact the life and health of the people in the state of Washington, as well as the property and transportation infrastructure, all of which affect life, health, property, and the public peace, and constitute a public emergency necessitating immediate action. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bob Ferguson, Governor of the state of Washington, as a result of the above-noted situation and under Chapters 38.52 and 43.06 RCW, do hereby proclaim that a State of Emergency exists in King and Pierce counties, and direct the plans and procedures in the Washington State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan be implemented in these counties.

AG Brown joined me when our state committed to covering the gap caused by the federal attempt to defund Planned Parenthood if their litigation is not successful. We know that it's an irreplaceable provider for Washingtonians — and that Medicaid funding is critical to maintain its services.

Kent Liu has prosecuted many challenging cases in courtrooms across Washington, worked to civilly commit Sexually Violent Predators, and led the Attorney General's Office's new unit that prosecutes organized retail crime. I was proud to attend his investiture yesterday.

4 days this year with 90,000 riders on our ferries. We only had 1 day of that last year – and that was the first since 2019. We’re making real progress on fixing the ferries and bringing business to island communities.

A tsunami advisory remains in effect because there have been observable waves greater than one foot. All waves must be under 1 foot for 3 hours for the advisory to be removed. Neah Bay still has wave heights of 1.3 feet and Port Angeles has wave heights of 1.2 feet. #wawx

The tsunami advisory is still in effect this morning for our coast. If you're on the coast, stay away from beaches and waterways, be alert and keep checking for updates. Stay current here: tsunami.gov

A tsunami advisory has been issued for Washington’s outer coast. State Parks has announced that ocean beaches are closed & people are advised to stay off the beaches until further notice. They are not closing campsites at this time, but campers will be alerted of the advisory. #wawx

This TSUNAMI ADVISORY is now just for the outer coast of Washington state and does NOT include the inner counties of King, Pierce and Thurston. Ocean sensors indicate a possible one foot wave at some of the outer coast. There may still be some unusual currents on the inner coast. #wawx

A few of the state laws I signed earlier this year that took effect on Sunday: Reporting of medical debt to credit agencies is prohibited. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are state holidays. Washingtonians have the right to repair for electronic products and mobility equipment.

Our crews are trained to notice when things are out of the ordinary, and that training helped a child today. Shortly after today’s Amber Alert was issued, a sharp-eyed crew member on the Issaquah noticed that a pair that matched the description of the child & suspect had walked on in Bremerton.

Port Angeles has already lifted its "Do Not Drink" order for its water supply. We were able to quickly contain the fuel spill and prevent further damage because of the immediate response by so many people, organizations, Tribal partners, and levels of government working together.
