These refugees were turned away in large part because of the efforts of Sen. Robert Reynolds, a southern D (now known as MAGA) from NC and his buddy Gerald Winrod who started the antisemitic paper “The Defender”. MAGA has always been at the forefront of antisemitism (eg KKK, evangelicals, etc.).

Prof. Nichols’ “School of Athens” spent multiple days discussing this very topic. In addition to “intent” (e.g., see Wannsee), the rate at which you exterminate people seemed to be important as well (e.g., see Rwanda, killings/hr). Both difficult to digest if you have people you care about in Gaza.
