Manifestos, even ones from figures motivated by some kind of ideology, are often just inscrutable hodgepodges of references to other shooters—and now insane internet lore. There’s no hidden secret. It’s just a pile of crap from someone whose brain was cooked by the internet.
Pretty much every mass shooting, particularly ones involving kids, people try to dig for some hidden motive, message, or ideology in a cesspool of edgelord internet shit. But the vast majority of the times, there just isn’t one.
Hitler is transgressive. Nazi imagery is transgressive. These guys aren’t actually nation socialists — they just are brain poisoned.

"Ненависть"—or "hatred" in Russian—is on one of the magazines. It's an apparently reference to Vladislav Roslyakov, who murdered 20 people and injured close to 70 others during a massacre at Kerch Polytechnic College in Crimea in 2018. He wrote his manifesto in English with Cyrillic characters.
The Minnesota shooter seems more or less straight out of the nihilistic violent extremist handbook. There's echoes of Columbine, Sandy Hook, etc. here. In one clip you could "Ted K." (unabomber) and "Robert Bowers" (Pittsburgh) written on his guns. He referenced Adam Lanza in his screed.

Things got weird on my end too. When I reached out for comment to Betar, they concocted a bizarre conspiracy seemingly involving George Soros, my partially Jewish dad (???), and @thebaffler.com. Anyway, this is the group that wants to fight "antisemitism."
I reviewed dozens of cases and government testimony. What I found was right-wing groups laundering Canary Mission, and even Betar's, work. The State Department told me they use "all available tools" when I asked them if they referred to Canary Mission for visa revocations.

It is almost a badge of honor in the journalism industry to have a “New York Times didn’t credit me” story. It’s bafflingly infuriating, both because of the state of local/nonprofit media and because of the many NYT folks I know who would personally go out of their way to give credit where due.

It's a tiny hop within extremist literature from the vile anti-immigrant sentiment that "Camp of the Saints" promotes -- one that posits there's an intentional scheme to "replace" white Europeans -- to hardcore antisemitism. All that changes is who is behind this "scheme."
It genuinely amazes me that Rod Dreher—who is of the people who helped mainstream "Camp of the Saints" in the United States, taking it out of the domain of niche white nationalist blogs and to major pubs—doesn't see any connection to between it and what we're dealing with today.
I would really love to know what these guys are being told to look for in these stops because right now it seems like their criteria for harassing and threatening someone is just anyone who isn’t white.

NEW—Earlier this evening agents from ICE/other fed agencies were outside Rhode Island Ave metro in DC asking people exiting the station for their IDs, per someone who experienced it. When the person presented their Real ID license, an agent said that wasn't sufficient. Luckily they had secondary ID.
