10 episodes is just how far I am, but so many issues I have had with how women are written in Tominoβs Gundams feels challenged in a good way. Also Harry is a great fruity Char clone.
As a viewer, the stark difference in mood and production is palpable. Seeing all these weird thought patterns Tomino had unraveled in 10 episodes is very cathartic!
Literary comparison is fun, watching Victory Gundam has made me appreciate aspects of Turn A Gundam I may not have thought anything of. Incredibly clear this is a work of love rather than spite and pain. Couple episodes at a time are really letting me chew on this, itβs great!π

Yeah the literary comparison makes it worth my time because it's interesting seeing it after 3 eps of Turn A.
You do have to forgive my hostility but I consider this the single worst anime I've ever had the displeasure of viewing and I find it has no redeeming qualities besides it's music and some nice drawings here or there.

to me it was clear he was pretty unwell making this, so i agree with you.
I found it so egregious and infuriating that I knew if I didn't marathon Victory in two days that I would never finish it, and I did this for the sake of a friend and literary comparison and conversation. However, it's ass, and if this was the only Gundam I'd watch, I'd never touch another, lololol.
Not everyone feels as strongly as me, but one of my few pet peeves, one of the things that I cannot stomach in terms of "media's treatment of women" is regulating every woman to a mother or caregiver role, and obvious narrative punishments for those who do not engage with motherhood towards Uso.
The misogynistic aspects of UC Gundam (0079, Zeta, CCA, etc) are very present but there is enough going on, or women have multiple roles in the narrative, that it is frustrating but ignorable. Victory is all the worst parts of that in a 51 episode anime that keeps killing female characters.
Victory Gundam is a case study a 52 yo man's developing mental psychosis caused by strained work conditions & long time misogyny exemplified by those frustrations. Instead of therapy, he made a shotasona with a bowlcut who sees thirty beautiful 19 yo cougars die in front of him for character growth.

BTW, I can't even say I liked this film, it stressed me out super bad, but I thought it was incredibly well made.
The ability of the film and artistic framing able to drive home isolation and distance, really phenomenal imo. Wouldn't watch it if you're tired or trying to unwind, would watch it if you're ready to sit down and Engage with Media.
