I take the view outlined in the Yorkshire Day ‘declaration of integrity.’ That says something to the effect of “All persons born in or resident in Yorkshire, and loyal to Yorkshire, are Yorkshire folk.” Sub ‘Yorkshire’ for ‘Britain’ and you get the general idea. It shouldn’t be rocket science.

In the UK we had a school shooting in Dunblane in 1996. A primary school, 16 kids of 5/6 years old and their teacher, murdered. In 1997, Parliament made private gun ownership effectively illegal in the UK, with a handful of very specific exemptions. Zero school shootings since. Zero kids shot dead.

I’d say one below the SCS, Grade 6. Anyone from SCS1 and up can be - and often is - named in published documents, so can be held publicly accountable. Plus anyone getting close to £200k is likely to be a Perm Sec, or a lucky Director General. And they definitely get held to account by Parliament.

That’s my understanding, yeah. From what I’ve seen, the point Tsurumaki was making leaned more on the idea that the power fantasy in anime has moved away from mecha. The zeitgeist now is moving more to magic and the fantastical. Broadly, mecha is a shrinking genre, and even Gundam isn’t immune.

So in German, ‘criminal police’ makes sense. It’s the term for the plainclothes detective branch, as compared to the uniformed officers. (things I learned from Robert Harris’ excellent book Fatherland!) Presumably wherever this came from, it’s translated that same terminology somewhat literally.
