My Mam maintained that I had whooping cough as a baby up to and including an episode where I was picked up out of my cot and held upside down by my ankles & whacked on my back to stop me coughing. My Dad was always more sceptical as to whether I had it or not, but clearly something went on.
They got very cross when I called them out on it, but it stopped them. Second was the time lots of, er, young British female historians called out a male contemporary for unacceptable & inappropriate behaviour online & at conferences, & he deleted his account & hasn't been heard of online since 2/2
Couple of niche ones from the other place: I worked out once that someone (in Turkey?) was creating dozens of fake accounts all purporting to be English young female 'historians', of really random things e.g. 'Mary Swan, historian of wine and socks' then following loads of real historians 1/2

Am in a rooftop restaurant overlooking Lake Maggiore. It is clearly the place to be seen, and many of the locals look like they've just walked off the catwalks of Milan. Wonder what they're making of this moustachioed valley wonder...?
