We are incredibly excited to feature this forum during #NWAS25! I am really looking forward to engaging with digital meteorologists and having an important discussion on integrating new partners and collaborating toward a similar mission for consistent messaging across the weather enterprise

The procurement of the next phased array radar (PAR) R&D instrument, a Rotating PAR that would provide 360° surveillance with vastly improved spatial/temporal resolution compared to the 88-D network, was cancelled PAR technology has so much promise to improve the protection of life and property

Folks often forget that impacts from tropical systems can extend beyond the center of circulation or the “center line” of the storm track Flash flooding conditions and near severe wind gusts are occurring almost 200 miles from the center of circulation within the outer rainbands of Hurricane Erin 🌀

Category 5 Hurricane #Erin as viewed from the San Juan, Puerto Rico radar (center of circulation is approximately 215 miles to the northeast)

#HurricaneErin is now officially a Category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds near 160 mph (255 km/h) and a minimum pressure near 917 mb from the latest reconnaissance aircraft observations 🌀

A lot of this coordination is done through NWSChat where partners can interact in realtime with the forecasters and WCM. Offices also have partner briefings to give a heads-up about upcoming weather All of this is contingent upon the relationships that the NWS office builds with local partners

Jacobs: “I don’t know that you could spend too much on research.” Also Jacobs: “Yes, I support the President’s budget” (a 27% reduction in NOAA’s budget - including the elimination of climate, weather, and ocean Laboratories and Cooperative Institutes) Fully funding NOAA is absolutely critical
