The folks at the NWS Storm Prediction Center once again demonstrated their expertise in highlighting potential severe weather five days in advance Your dedicated public servants at national & local NWS offices continue and will always do everything in their capacity to protect lives and property
Yesterday’s severe weather outbreak was the nightmare scenario that all of the former National Weather Service Directors alluded to in their open letter earlier this month: “Our worst nightmare is that weather forecast offices will be so understaffed that there will be needless loss of life.”
This is actually the second time that dust has impacted the Chicago area this year Back in March, this mid-latitude cyclone brought dust from New Mexico, the Texas Panhandle, and Oklahoma all the way up to the Midwest

Here is the full statement I know that the NWS is going to carry on its mission regardless of what it might look like in the future because the NWS folks are so tied to the mission, but the cuts and reductions to the agency are most certainly having an impact, whether immediately tangible or not
