My wife wanted to move to the burbs. I desperately wanted to stay in the city. We compromised by buying a SFH with a yard in the Bronx. Lower taxes, only needing one car, and UPK make living in the city cheaper than any of the suburbs with a comparable commute.
I would simply make my kids ride the bus instead of spending the majority of my day dropping off and picking up my kids from school.
It’s the 10th bluest and 8th richest.

In New York, buses sometimes just disappear off the tracker. I’ve also had busses show up to my stop, discharge all the passengers, and go out of service mid-route.

My point is that when small cities make transit free they get big ridership increases and moderate mode shift at a relatively low cost. NYC’s free bus pilot program showed ridership increase, no mode shift from cars and very high cost. What works in one place doesn’t necessarily work in another.
That would make Tucson’s fare box recovery about 8%. NYC’s is 26%. That’s a huge difference.
NYC has much higher transit usage than Tucson and therefore has fares cover a much higher percentage of transit costs. Experts estimate that making NYC busses free will cost between $700 million and $1 billion per year.

They will build a new tunnel under All Faiths Cemetery, but there is an existing tunnel by Broadway Junction that is too narrow for A division trains.
I think that free busses are a bad and possibly disastrous idea and I’m still voting for that guy so hard.

There is free street parking on the vast majority of NYC streets. Only commercial thoroughfares have metered parking. In most neighborhoods you have to move your car once or twice a week for street cleaning.

That being said, as someone who has to go to all corners of the city for work, an IBX to the Bronx could be the key to me never having to drive in the five boroughs for work ever again.
Extending the IBX to the Bronx would limit the amount of service it could provide given the constraints of the Hell Gate Bridge. I believe the current design preserves the possibility of a Bx extension.

There’s a four-story building going up across the street from the playground in my neighborhood. Most of the negative comments on the neighborhood Facebook group focus on the proximity to the playground. I guess they can’t imagine that families with young kids might move in.

My neighborhood was downzoned by Giuliani and downzoned again by Bloomberg. You used to be able to build 4-story apartment buildings. Now everything has to be a 1 or 2 family detached house.

I’m not trying to cover for Trump. I’m just pointing out that Biden got inflation under control and Trump’s tariffs haven’t kicked in enough to massively distort the CPI. Until the CPI jumps to 2021-2022 levels, you’re not going to see it covered the same way it was then.
