When I was a kid I dreamed of making money off my comic art. When I went to college I chose an English degree in an effort to make myself more employable. Today, my degree is worth less and less thanks to AI "tools" I'm a real person with real creative skills. I just want to work like everyone else.
Directly how, through local bookstores? Is selling through distributors and publishers fine? How involved with other groups can individual artists be without ending up right where we started?
From what I've seen, global hunger is still fairly bad, and homelessness and displacement is on the rise The economy is tanking from awful federal policies The agriculture industry is built off the backs of underpaid immigrant labor None of this sounds "close" to me
Also, how would you propose artsist be compensated for their labor instead of copies sold and royalties
I have very strong opinions on what we as a populace should do about corporations and millionaires/billionaires, but it's best not to openly express that online
I'd love to exist in a post-scarcity society where artists can just create and be supported by society, but we aren't there yet, and AI doesn't seem like the clear, easy path to getting there
I agree the corporations having a stranglehold on the ability for creative to make money is very bad I also think the way they can hoard IP and weapon I've copyright is awful To my knowledge, however, there aren't other protections for smaller creatives
I dont think it's the point where it fell apart, but I don't think gen AI helps artists From what I've seen, the technology has almost exclusively been used to try and render artists and creativity obsolete
That's exactly the issue Art is inherently a human creation. That doesn't work for a corporate setting where every individual solely exists as a cog in the machine. If corpos could axe all artists and save money with ai they would do it in a heartbeat
If artist were to strike right now they'd all get fired and replaced with AI The corpos are frothing at the mouth for it They NEED to destroy artists it's a primal urge that creeps through their veins. Art and creativity terrifies them; it must be destroyed
Belittling independent artists for wanting to be able to do what they love and survive is CRAZY work Corporatization of art is leading to the death of culture, but unfortunately, our current economic system doesn't support artists being able to make stuff

We're on practically the same side of the aisle on this AI is not the right step toward the future right now. The lack of regulation and safeguards is promoting a culture of theft and ignorance. This tech can't lead to post-scarcity until the average person is free from the chains of capitalism
