It was unfortunate that I'd seen the similar Better Than Life episode of Lupat recently, as some of the Gozyugers perfect worlds were quite moving.
This week's Gozyuger was better than the part 1, largely because Bouquet and Fire Candle committed their most succesful crime: Stealing the show (again).
It looks like the rule of thumb is every episode where the girls' idol song gets played will leave me deeply confused by the end.

It's another one focused on the girls! But feels like it's one written by someone who never saw any of the show as it's about how they need to learn to be big and tough amd independent without the boys and, as they were already, that requires them to suddenly act like they 8 year old idiots.

“The Thursday Murder Club” on Netflix features a bevy of Doctor Who actors, but clearly the two most notable are the unnamed extra who played Brendan in “Ascension of the Cybermen”, and “The Next Doctor Who” David Burton himself(!!)
Also, the main human guest star was called Yua, there was a Sawa a few episodes before. I'm going to have to pay more attention to names to see if these little callbacks are intentional or just common names.

Today on Gotchard, me after my annoyance with Gavv earlier when I go back to the show that has a bunch of interesting varied and cool women characters. (Like, Renge is probably the least developed tertiary character out of them and she still gets more most episodes than Glotta managed)
I really wish there'd been less Stomachs and merged a few of their roles, that would have dealt with a lot of my issues if Glotta had done the Neylv or Suga stuff as well as headbutting people occasionally.
Sarah Jane when she's written by a guy for whom she was she was his childhood crush: I used to wear hotpants, you know.
#DoctorWhoADay The completely shameless "We have Mr Smith at home" is great, especially as the main show never really did a Matrix riff.
(And she was great, continually finding more to bring to the table than was on the script. Same with what Glotta managed with the even less she got. The casting has again not gone wrong)
And no, not every woman needs to be a Rider (though every show should have one by this point), or "bad ass," Misora was the best character in Build and was very much the emotional heart of the show. But poor old Sachika was basically just a well acted clothes horse with nice legs in the end.
I think if I rewatch down with more managed expectations the other things that annoyed me (such as too many and too underdeveloped villains) won't be so annoying, but how she and Glotta and Siita basically got buggered is always going to be a hurdle. The bitchy child bride was best in the end?!
Still kind of baffled what happened with Gavv and the women characters considering I was expecting so much from the writer of Lupat and Zenkaiger (and who also did a lot of Ghost and Drive!). According to the titles, Sachika was the third lead, in the end, she was barely Chiyoko level.
Though my favourite thing about this one is the "Security system" that takes the passes is a Thing from The Adams' Family piggybank.
Notably, AI teaching. Where the "University degree in 3 minutes" computer led course gets everyone learning the same basic facts by rota, but you ask anyone who went through the smallest deviation from the expected question (what was a treaty rather than when) they have no idea.
This week's some wine left Prisoner is notable for being one of two times a Number 2 reoccurred. Though, being The Prisoner, most fans put his episodes the other way round to the broadcast order. It's also an episode that seemed dated for a long time with its big 60s computers... but it's about AI.

Yeah, great film. Every bit perfectly pitched. From what I was reading, this and the other Paramount Hitchcock's were out of circulation for 20 years till Universal bought the rights to them in the 80s. Mad. Especially as Vertigo was one of the other films affected!
The simple moment of Raymond Burr seeing Stewart is one of the great "Oh fuck" moments in cinema.

The best "Is Bond still relevant?" film is GoldenEye. Partly as it's an argument more worth making on the first film back after the Cold War than still doing it in the 6th, but also because of the simplicity of it. The accusation is made by M, the refuting is just the next two hours being great.
Logopolis is a better story than its odd plotting might have you think, effectively it's a mood more than anything. And its final moments are as good as Who ever gets. RIP Christopher H Bidmead.

Apparently a pic of the Watcher got posted to a "ghost" Facebook page recently and got taken completely seriously.
Season 18's "seriousness" isn't too popular these days, but when Bidmean is actually writing it there's some lovely dry wit to it and the science talk feels far smoother than when he's putting it in other scripts.
I was going to finish off Zero-One with O1hers tonight, but not in the mood to be more annoyed by a Rider doing its characters dirty, ao instead am raising a beer to the man who killed Tom Baker.
But, looking ahead, there's already two weekends between now and Christmas I won't make the Saturday/Sunday screenings, beholding me to the Friday or catching one of the other arbitrary repeats. Which, hmm. Might need to carry on the old ways those episodes.
And hey, for all I've moaned about how they're doing it, I do want to support official ways of getting this stuff rather than the nebulous "Hey, we'll turn a blind eye to fansubs on these conditions" stuff. I'd love more (and not region locked!) blu rays if this does well.
It's a shame the last Gavv underwhelmed me a bit as that's the last episode I'll watch the way I have the last two years, from next week, it's an official Western (hell, *UK*) release for Zeztz. Assuming I can make the "Let's not have it be too easy for them" release method work for me.
Yeah, like, the last time anyone saw him, he was running into certain death. But even Hanto seemed barely bothered either way.
Hmm, the fights were nice, the Jeebh and Lizel stuff was actually really good, but it felt a bit by the numbers. At no point did I feel Shoma was at any real risk from Lango because he's been such a ruthless killing machine all year, and the nothing Sachika got was actually appalling.

I did wounder if they'd save Rakia's fate till the vcinema, so nice to see it confirmed he's OK. But no reaction at all from Sachika at being cut off forever from him after their bubbling little thing?! It's like the one moment she could have had that was about her!

There she is! We're really going to go three (might even be four?) episodes of her in one outfit? Like, yes, these are set over hours, but earlier in the season she was getting through two fits a show regardless of narrative logic.
Damn, it was just her normal monster form anyway. Just for a second I thought the show was actually going to pull it out the bag right at the end. Lizel has been another great kid actor though.

It's Gavv finale time! I've both loved and been frustrated by this one, and at the moment I'd put it behind Gotchard and Geats, but will the end fully win me round? Pretty sure that's not the Lesbian Funfair, I think it's the smaller, more rural one they shot the Ex-Aid dead characters webseries?
Usually if it's a film series I enjoy overall, I can roll with and have fun with the bad ones. This was a "Yeah, never going to watch that again" level film. And I've seen Alien Resurrection at least twice.

The UFO group being presented as a joke (BURRPS) and then it turning out the head of it was really the victim of horrific alien abductions is a pretty clever switch.
It's also a sequel to the Judoon story with the returning body swapping war criminal. Which is nice, the Trickster is really the show's only reccuring villain, adding some more is good.
Which is one of those odd things people forget, RTD1 actually overlapped with the Moffat era by a couple of years in the spinoffs.

RIP Christopher H Bidmead. I once did a brief stint as sub editor on ComputerActive magazine. Chris came into the office one day to have a chat with the editor. I approached him and said: “Mr Bidmead, I just wanted to say hello.” “Ah! A Doctor Who fan!” He responded.
And I know the UK is only really in there because, having done English subs for America they might as well include us as well, but it feels a shame the first real push on Kamen Rider for us almost seems doomed to wind up not looking the effort from the start.
That's better, but still requires more work for the viewer (and again, I'll put the work in as an existing Rider nerd, this isn't helpful to drawing in noobs) than just having a normal YouTube video (like Ultraman does! There's an existing standard) would be.
Cause, who that hasn't seen any Kamen Rider before is, in 2025, going to make a watch at a specific time commitment? Especially in the UK where the choices are super early morning or tea time.
And don't get me wrong, it would be fun to see a Rider go out live every week, and I'll certainly try to make it every time, but I really hope the watch it one of the three times or miss it thing is a mistake or something Shout rejig.
I guess people who already watch Kamen Rider will make the effort to be there bang on every week, not sure how this will work as an international push for new fans though.
