I agree with most of that, but no objection to mass 😉. Catholicism may have its faults but they aren't really a threat to society.

Most ECHR members are a "show me your papers" country. (one justification in the UK for not having an ID card is about refugees, but not how you'd think) …it's that by the time the far right have got round to demanding everybody has one, the people who need to flee might have had time to get away.

So I think technically it's a crime of aggression. Obviously the US will veto any attempted referral to the ICC.

Labour can't even do the centre. Mixing socialism with nationalism and the politics of exclusion is doomed, and already isn't working. It's like blending red with cyan and hoping for yellow. You might get white if mixing light, but if you try it with ink you just get something dark and ugly.

Apparently you can put metadata on websites too to label them as unsuitable for kids. This would work much much better if made obligatory. Parents can easily verify their children's ages to the exact year, but have little idea whether those kids are accessing age-appropriate content.
isoma (@isoma.bsky.social) reply parent
Labelling trans people differently feels like a really important story. It's not about providing all mixed use cubicles (a non story indeed); it's about providing segregated facilities, and then telling someone that they must have different treatment, despite such discrimination being unlawful.

Violence can be used in the context of damage: “behavior or treatment in which physical force is exerted for the purpose of causing damage or injury.” However, throwing paint over something is hardly physical force. Dubbing this vandalism is arguable, yes; "violence" it was not. Try a dictionary.

What's the opposite? A regressive world view? I don't understand what "progressive" would be if I'm honest. Wikipedia documents regressive harm (pace original research rules) as much as it records evidence of progress. Other than an implied objection to crimes against humanity, I don't see it.

isoma (@isoma.bsky.social) reply parent
There's only one landlord-provided laundry machine where I live. The janitor, the only person to use it, is fine with that. Buying a laundry machine can cost way less than one month's typical rent, even if you include delivery. You can pay more but you don't have to. Hardly anyone uses a laundry.

It's illegal and unkind but I am torn on this. Along with a relatively small proportion of craft goods, individual vinyl records, etc, the US has given overseas suppliers an almost free hand in direct-to-consumer sales. Ending that trade might even save lives, by cutting the pollution it entails.
