It's challenging to charge someone with a crime for interfering with a legally-dubious kidnapping. Federal prosecutors will first have to prove the defendant did something legally wrong, and stepping in when unidentified armed men are abducting someone is a duty of law-abiding citizens.

Jackson, Mississippi and Birmingham, Alabama have significantly higher violent crime rates than DC or Baltimore. Mississippi, in general, is crime ridden: it's the worst murder and violent crime rate in the nation. But crime prevention is truly needed in one place: Capitol Hill.

The footnotes on decisions are insightful. In the Heller decision, Scalia said explicitly in a footnote that the gov't has the legal authority to regulate the sale, purchase & possession of guns. Conservatives claim Heller erased all gov't power over guns, tho, in opposition to Scalia's footnote.
