Verdict on the Fresh Peach Pie: so good! Some peach pies are super runny. Not this one! It all came together. And yeah, tasted great with vanilla ice cream. 100,000/10. This is excellent pie.

It is a little messy, but it still looks pretty good. And it's likely to be delicious when served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. I had to get one more peach pie in before the end of summer. I've got one more pie weekend before this game ships, so next weekend I'm thinking lemon meringue.

A small controversy erupted on the pie subreddit after someone posted a photo of a cheesecake. Let it be known that I am firmly of the belief that cheesecake is pie. It is filling in a crust. Quiche on the other hand, is not pie. It is an abomination. We will not speak of it again.

On 27th August 2015, The Shepherd's Crown, the last book Sir Terry Pratchett completed before he died, was published. To mark the ten year anniversary, we have a message from Rob Wilkins:

It’s been ten years since the publication of The Shepherd’s Crown, the last book Terry Pratchett completed before he died. Once the spine on this one was cracked, there were no more new Pratchetts to look forward to, and I know a lot of Discworld readers who were, understandably, with that sad reality in mind, reluctant to finish - or even start - this one because it felt like the final closing of a door. But I also know that Terry wanted his books to be read and enjoyed far more than he wanted them kept on a shelf. And as time passes it becomes ever more apparent how much the Discworld books reward re-visiting, perpetually revealing something new, literary gems Terry had hidden away for a second or third, or even more, re-read. Every Pratchett is to some degree an unread Pratchett, including the ones you’ve already enjoyed and including The Shepherd’s Crown. So the greatest way to honour Terry’s legacy is to pull that book you’ve been saving off the shelf, make a nice cup of tea and settle down to read the story he wrote for you. Enjoy. Ziff Davis and IGN routinely decide that work done by our laid off colleagues is not important. But inevitably, that crucial work falls onto those who remain. Not this time. Not anymore.

FROM NOW UNTIL FEBRUARY 13TH IGN CREATORS GUILD IS GOING TO... DO OUR JOB! OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS, IGN MANAGEMENT HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH LAYING OFF OUR COWORKERS OVER AND OVER. MEANWHILE, MANY OF OUR COLLEAGUES HAVE LEFT THE COMPANY IN NO SMALL PART DUE TO BUYOUTS, OVERWORK, AND FEELING UNSUPPORTED, EACH TIME, THE COMPANY HAS REFUSED TO BACKFILL MANY ESSENTIAL ROLES, CLAIMING WE'RE ON A HIRING FREEZE, IT'S NOT IN THE BUDGET, OR THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO LESS WORK THIS TIME. AS A RESULT, IGNCG MEMBERS HAVE BEEN FORCED TO TAKE ON MORE OF THEIR FORMER COLLEAGUES' WORKLOADS. MANY OF US NOW WORK LONGER HOURS THAN WE USED TO. A LOT OF US RARELY TAKE LUNCH BREAKS. SOME OF US DO NOT TAKE ADEQUATE TIME OFF DUE TO THERE BEING NO ONE TO PICK UP THE SLACK. OTHERS OF US ARE STUCK DOING WORK WE WERE NEVER HIRED TO DO IN THE FIRST PLACE. UP TO THIS POINT, WE'VE ALL ACCEPTED THIS AS NORMAL, BECAUSE WE CARE DEEPLY ABOUT IGN AND THE WORK WE DO. BUT WITH SO MANY OF US STRUGGLING MORE AND MORE AS EACH NEW WAVE OF OUR COWORKERS ARE DEPRIVED OF A LIVELIHOOD, THIS CYCLE CAN'T CONTINUE. MANAGEMENT IS UNWILLING TO STOP IT, SO IT FALLS TO US. WITH THE LAYOFFS OF EIGHT OF OUR COWORKERS, IGNCG HAS NEGOTIATED A SIX-MONTH RECALL LIST. WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT, FOR THE NEXT SIX MONTHS, IF IGN WANTS TO FILL ANY OF THOSE ELIMINATED ROLES AGAIN, THEY MUST REHIRE OUR LAID-OFF COLLEAGUES. WE WANT THEM TO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET THEIR JOBS BACK IF THEY WANT THEM, AND IF NOT, WE WANT THOSE ROLES BACKFILLED TO EASE THE BURDEN ON THE REST OF US. SO STARTING TODAY, LENCE MEMBERS ARE COMMITTING TO DO OUR JOBS. NO MORE, NO LESS. WELL SHOW UP TO WORK ON TIME AND LEAVE ON TIME. WE'RE TAKING ALL OF OUR LUNCH TIME, EVERY DAY. IF WE WORK LATE, WE WILL FIRMLY ASK FOR OUR RIGHTFULLY EARNED COMP TIME. AND IF IGN WANTS OUR LAID-OFF COWORKERS' WORK TO GET DONE, THEY'LL HAVE TO REHIRE THEM TO DO IT INSTEAD OF FOISTING IT UPON US. HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT IGNCG IN ALL THIS? Verdict on the Really Good Key Lime Pie: unsurprisingly, really good! I don't know if the pretzels in the crust do all that much (added salt, I guess?) but I do love the meringue. And the filling is classic key lime. 500,000/10. This is great pie.

Took the family to Glenstone today. The museum itself is as much a work of art as the pieces on display. And there's no commentary! They embrace Duchamp's idea that art happens between the work and the viewer (naturally, he's in the collection). It's really a special place. www.glenstone.org

O multicolored lords of the dying summer light, I come before you today with my latest offering: a Summer Berry Pie. May this cornucopia of seasonal fruits be worthy of your approval. #pieforthepiegods

This is a pie I've made a couple of times before, but both times I had serious issues getting the fruit to set. This time it looks like I nailed it. Looking forward to eating this one.

Thanks to @justjakesimpson.bsky.social I've gone down a rabbit hole of looking into teasmade machines - automated tea makers. They apparently go back to Victorian times, but were mostly a thing in the '60s and '70s. They all look like something out of Wallace & Gromit, and now I want one.

I had never heard of this thing, but just looked it up. That's...really cool? I'm shocked such a thing doesn't exist anymore.

This movie is legendary, because it's the one theaters wanted, but were required to take Star Wars along with in order to screen.

There are two, totally unrelated, working actors named Peyton List. I don't know what this means, but that information lives rent-free in my head, so now it's in yours.

A screencap from IMDb showing two people named Peyton List.

We drive up and down from MD to NY and CT all the time, and I really want to take a side trip as a pilgrimage. But my wife absolutely will not understand why I need to go an hour out of our way to visit...a mall.

I am of course, keeping my Gaiman books. Those still mean a lot to me, even if I don't feel comfortable proudly displaying them in the same way.
