It’s not quite the same, there were potential real world money implications with the economy glitch, but the reactions are very similar.
The players that did basically got off scot-free in the end (any hats after the first they got were made untradable) and the players who didn’t got… nothing.
It reminds me of something that happened back in 2019, where TF2 had an economy breaking glitch that caused Unusual hats to drop at basically guaranteed rates. Players who didn’t abuse the glitch wanted a reward or a punishment for those who did.

I havent personally watched Wing but Ive heard it's absolutely buck wild. 0083 starts off great but kinda torpedoes towards the end. Still pretty good, but probably the weakest of the 80s/90s UC OVAs. Martian Successor Nadesico is absolutely hilarious, very fun series. YMMV on the romance aspects.

That said, it misses a lot of the difficulty that WOTL introduced. It wouldn’t be hard for an experienced player to win every single time with little difficulty. You can’t get screwed over the way you can in the expansions.
A good question, even though I did not start playing Isaac before WOTL. Pre-WOTL Isaac is a pretty solid game, honestly probably better than Afterbirth+, because it has the right amount of stuff to learn without being impossible to keep in memory.
