So where is everyone? In 1950, physicist Enrico Fermi asked why humanity had not yet found alien life. Scientists have proposed explanations, from alien civilizations just being too far apart to the unsettling idea that advanced life might not last long enough to make contact.

High potential for some more oceanfront homes in the Outer Banks to collapse during Hurricane Erin. If you’re wondering why they’re so close to the water and why nobody tears them down beforehand, here you go: www.ncrabbithole.com/p/rodanthe-n...

Dude seriously? So one small remaining good part of an otherwise failed project should be removed to simply make it a total failure?

look I'm not myself a political scientist so I can't say what effects it would have for a spate of politicians to crop up saying "the enemy is the oligarchy" and "the enemy is billionaires" while swinging a kettlebell but I think we should try it for science and see what happens

this is a good interview this is a good point (I keep this in mind wrt zoning deregulation, which IMO most benefits developers / property owners, but has trickle down benefits - you have to work with the tools you're given and no policy can fix everything) www.thedriftmag.com/politics-is-...

Well, the climate politics here has been all about solar panel improvements for homeowners, and that’s elite capture, because the people who have it worst are renters. And so the proposal to make it easier to get solar panels on homes that people own is bad and should be opposed. I don’t know that the second point really follows. Obviously, there’s a question of political priorities, and you can’t win every battle at once, and so maybe there is a reason to switch to some other battle. But if you could push a button and put solar panels on houses, that would be a net positive. People overcorrect and oppose political issues and policies that are associated with elite capture. I think we can move a little more slowly from a diagnosis that elite capture is at play in some political area to a decision about what we should do about it.

Interesting, partnership with the TVA - they'll build it at oak ridge Biden famously failed to replace Trump 1's fossil fuel guys on the TVA board, but maybe Trump is more friendly to nuclear than other renewables because it sounds badass www.reuters.com/sustainabili...
