It’s loosely inspired by one of favorite trails (Mezcal) in Sedona.

The reference photo was taken by a friend of mine out in the Black Hills.

I like to get my sky done first. Skies look better with big loose strokes and I can be looser with my brush when I don’t have to worry about messing up anything else that’s already been painted. More on my process at JimMusil.com/learn

My painting OWL’S CLOVER
After the sketch, I apply a thin glaze of Azo Gold. This layer warms my painting and ties all the colors together. You can really use any color you want, but I like this reddish orange color the best for my landscape paintings. More on my materials at JimMusil.com/materials
