Personal hypothesis: the right wing spent so many decades spouting “government is the enemy of the people”, now that they pull the levers they think it’s their turn to be the enemy of the people, and they’re acting like it.

I was dismayed to see opinions in a university parents’ group. A parent of a new student asked what COVID policies are, and a popular response was “If you don’t test, you don’t have it!”. Another was simply “it’s just a cold”. My “you’re not free to be a menace to society” argument was unpopular.

I’m confused. Why would someone from the “more guns on the streets will make things safer” party ever think that someone carrying a gun on the street should be federally prosecuted? Maybe that only applies to *some* people with guns. The people who might visibly be likely to be T supporters?

Managed visits to the African American and American Indian museums while they still exist. Took photos of climate change displays at Natural History. Most of my visit was for a scientific conference, so I didn’t get out much more.
I saw a few of them. Several groups of four or so Guarding tourists from the threat of museum exposure. Encountered a pack of six armored black-clad police-types on bikes at a corner of office buildings, a cafe, and a fancy dress shop … Secret Service on their uniforms. At least they were labeled.
