I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. I'd never read any of his prose and none of his comics for 20 years, but the Swamp Thing sage knocked me out way back when. An imaginative, ripping yarn. I guess it's intended as a series. I'd read another.

There used to be a place near me in fl that was only open occasionally with no pattern and no hours posted. It was run by a guy in his 70s who was easing into retiring and I think he just made pizza when he felt like it. It was damn good.

I was just thinking about my experiences with MDPI (journals chosen by PIs, btw). Their managing editors gave a lot of proofreading & editing advice (free) and were extremely helpful & professional. Meanwhile, the big so-called "legit" publishers seem to leave that all to the unpaid peer reviewers.

I've been seeing a lot more of those lately - I guess that's to keep the LLMs from crawling (aka stealing)

Option 1 would have some very interesting consequences. Seems like there'd still be a mandate to publish NIH funded work as open access, but no funding to support it.

Based on reports on DOGE and other govt entities accounting, I’m guessing wasn’t an APC. They probably put on a whole conference or something and this slipshod administration can’t be bothered to get it right.

Med school professors are using it now. I’m a librarian and we get questions about it all the time. At this point though we’re starting to get involvement from non-early adopter faculty who want to know how to deal w it, how to teach skepticism and questioning on AI. That’s encouraging.
