The funny thing about charters is that they can be amended to allow for anything. The EU still prefers the perception of unity more so than actual unity in practice, which involves expelling anti-social actors.

The pipeline in questions bypasses Ukraine via Belarus as it seems.
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
If everything claimed by pro-Ukraine commentators is true, Russia is well and truly screwed. Russian manufacturing relies entirely on scale through maximum consolidation, in factories 1~2KM away from the "western front". Lot's high value strategic targets within the deep rear. If it's all true.

What's crazy though, is that with this, he has officially done more to acknowledge the war and his own casualties than any Russian government official over the last 3+years combined...

Everyone, we present Poland's advanced next generation multi-layered integrated networked aerospace defense forces. Defeated not by an Iranian drone, but rather by a single political decision to let the Russians use Polish airspace however they see fit to avoid a "provocation".
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
This would be a commitment to approximately 0.47% increase in annual defense spending over the next 16 years. Not nothing, but basically irrelevantly small if this is all. Are you sure there's not something missing here, this should be closer to 2.5 trillion Euros on the low end.
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
My answer to such claims has always ever been, if they do it once, maybe a fluke or misdirection, if the do it a second time than Russians are fucked. Like when the first A-50 was shot down over the black seaπ So far 0 things have been "blown up" by a cruise missile 3000km back. We shall see...

This is a test of the EU's agency, Ukraine has proven itself. I think we all know Ukraine can be trusted today. The question is whether or not the European Union is ready to force America to take a back seat, and stand with Ukraine in spite of the US.
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
The problem is already punching Europe repeatedly in the face. It's here, and we can see Europe's measure. No need to speculate anymore eh?
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
And for any stray EU citizen who might see this. Yes, I did not even bother ranting about the US. The US is no longer on team Europe, time to move forward with that reality.
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
The average EU citizen seems to want UA to win, Russia to lose and be relegated to the role of "Europe's gas station" again, and for peace dividends to rain ever more. But the average EU citizen also expects all this not only for free, but with tax cuts at the same time as government subsidies.
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
"Never again", "at any cost", "until victory", ("As long as it doesn't impact me").
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
I feel like ranting tonight. The cost to defeat Russia would have been around 1~2% of GDP, just the EU's GDP, in raw Euro terms. No other allies needed. If 1~2% for a few years was too high a cost for Europe to defeat it's only credible enemy, I don't know how they can even begin to posture.

UK grew 0.3% in the second quarter of 2025, Japan grew 0.37%~0.4% in the same period... Not sure that the post-brexit UK is doing that well as international standards go π...
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
I fear we can see what's seems to be coming... Unacceptable demands that simply cannot be accepted, followed by yet another US "pivot", and EU discussions about whether or not to hold a summit about maybe supporting UA independently from the US (but not really because Hungary or something)...π
Joe's Cat (@joe3141.bsky.social) reply parent
At this point the main question is will the EU be willing to back UA when the US comes back around to trying to force an unacceptable "peace" on UA. Given the EU is unwilling to even strip voting rights from a rogue Hungary openly backing the EU's chief enemy, I am not optimistic.

x2 Patriot Systems from Germany x2 Patriot Systems from the United States x1 Patriot System from German & Dutch joint provision x1 Patriot System from Romania x6 IRIS-T systems delivered (of 17 ordered via Diehl?) + x3 newly allocated Patriot Systems = x15 Such class of ADA batteries in total?π

Pathetic on Russia's part. Surely they've had to spend north of 6.3% GDP on war. Other countries have sustained even higher expenditures for decades during the cold war. It almost makes me hopeful that one day I will wake up to news that the RU economy finally broke and their BS is done.
