Since THE DEVILS (1971) is on the Criterion Channel right now, I will once again offer my idea of a remake with Matt Berry as Father Grandier.

On the other hand, I've known since 1987 that a friend from college had a relative named "Uncle Jabbo."
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social)
Maybe it's just me, but I had never heard the word "jab" used to describe a vaccination. "Shot," yes, but never "jab." It's amazing how ubiquitous that word became.
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social) reply parent
And it has an interesting origin story.

On a more positive note, I had time to hang out for a little bit tonight with Rob, who does the prog rock show that comes on after mine. I guess that's what made me nostalgic for the way it used to be.
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social)
I loved Thursday nights at the radio station because it was a social scene. People would finish their shows, go have a beer and something to eat, come back, and hang out on other shows. But during the pandemic, we had to produce our shows at home. And some folks never came back to the station. 📻

I failed to consume the recommended allowance of Travis McGee novels over the summer. The good news is my buddy at The Book Lady Bookstore tipped me off that he had dozens of OG paperbacks in the store, so I'm all set for next summer.

Murder Kroger was my main store. Sometimes on the weekends, I'd go to the Publix at Ansley Mall.
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social) reply parent
Perhaps visitors/tourists will also be customers. It's a totally different scenario, but the downtown Kroger here in Savannah is truly a crossroads for all sorts of people. It's hard to imagine what it would be like without it.

Thank you! I am glad I didn't imagine that. I think I stopped in every now and then on my walk home from work, though it was a little bit out of my way.

My father was understandably frustrated with me. Years later, when I was applying for a doctoral program, I requested my undergraduate transcript. They accidentally sent me my father's transcript and I got to see his Spanish grades. That's when I learned my condition was hereditary.
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social) reply parent
That was my "final exam." It probably didn't help to switch back and forth between French and Spanish classes. I'd had every professor in the department and none of them could teach me. I was an embarrassment, which is why she told me to "never come back."
John R. Bennett (@johnreidbennett.bsky.social) reply parent
I was so bad at Spanish that I took a class literally every term I was in college and still couldn't pass the final course I needed to graduate. Department chair finally said, "Come to my office and try to talk with me in Spanish for five minutes, then leave and never, ever come back here again."
