Yes, or they can look to Pritzker, who’s on offense against not only Trump but also the movement he represents. Newsom absolutely accepts and validates their lies. The danger is that other Dems would take away the idea that throwing trans people under the bus and being “tough on crime” is the way
Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social) reply parent

Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social) reply parent
He’s captured the Zeitgeist with Dems in 2025 but I kinda doubt he’ll be a strong contender 2 years from now. bsky.app/profile/josh...
Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s not a matter of people not meaning it. It’s that perceptions will shift when Laura Loomer or whoever accepts the GOP nomination. There’s good evidence for this. Polls often show a 3rd party candidate at like 10% six months out, respondents aren’t lying about their intent but then they get 1%.
Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social) reply parent
Given the stakes, it seems self-evident that Dems should go with someone who’s at least acceptable to the entire coalition. Sorting that out is what primaries are for.
Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social)
If Newsom manages to get nominated after alienating a big chunk of the base then people will hold their noses and vote for him. Meanwhile, the fact that people say they would never vote for him in 2025 is an electability argument against him in the primaries. So keep that up.

…to vote when Dems are gonna be highly motivated and Trump won’t be on the ballot. TX may’ve made 5 blue CDs red but they didn’t create new voters, they shifted them from safe districts, making them a little less safe. In a wave, if Dems are more likely to brave long lines, this could all backfire.
Joshua Holland (@joshuaholland.bsky.social)
Trump has no power to issue such an order but if history is any guide, red states will comply and then Trump will cite this to try to get Congress not to certify winners from the blue states that refuse. That will almost certainly be a bridge too far. It’s also pretty risky to make it harder…
