You’re back to “you must believe to believe.” Because, according to you, God won’t reveal the truth if I’m skeptical. And you know this because you believe it. Your “logic” is circular. I was a cradle Catholic, I went to parochial school, I was an altar boy. Been there, done that. Nothing.

Now, the most ardent believers have drunk their own kool-aid. It happens. There are mentalists who think they have real powers, because they do their tricks instinctively. But that doesn’t mean they have supernatural powers, anymore than it means anyone gets special instructions from “God.” 3/3

Provide evidence for something we can’t explain any other way using things already proven to exist. Bonus points if you can predict outcomes accurately. And before you say “that’s impossible,” it’s exactly the same standard reasonable people apply to explaining every other phenomenon.
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
TLDR: “Personal subjective (and biased) experiences do not constitute proof.” Plenty of people before you have tried using reason to prove the existence of God, including Thomas Aquinas, Blaise Pascal, and C.S. Lewis. Most of them eventually get to “Faith is not about reason, it’s about belief.”
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
Now, are you an ahamsterist? Or do you believe in Giant space hamsters? That’s the crux. You’re trying to *prove* the existence of God, we’re demanding theists provide evidence, any evidence, that lacks a simpler (i.e. “real”) explanation. 5/5
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
There are many other things that flatten crops, from herds of rampaging animals, to weather events, to humans playing a prank before we get to aliens, giant space hamsters, or “God.” That’s what’s meant by “extraordinary evidence.” You must first disprove other, less-fantastical, explanations. 4/5
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
Is it POSSIBLE that those things are evidence of God? Yes, but the skeptic says “You need to fail to provide any better explanation.” Because that’s how reason works. If I go outside and see crops flattened, it would be unreasonable to assert it was caused by “Giant Space Hamsters.” 3/5
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
And, put bluntly, we have other explanations for those that are *better* explanations backed up by other evidence that they are real phenomena. Using “God” to explain a psychological event is like using “Zeus” to explain weather. Sure, it’s AN explanation, but there are better evidence ones. 2/5
John Tripp (@jptripp.bsky.social) reply parent
None of what Christians call “evidence” meets the definition for evidence of the existence of “God.” What believers typically call “evidence” amounts to “spiritual experiences,” or, more accurately described, “good feelings. 1/5
