I remember going to visit a friend during Mardi Gras 2006. She had lost everything from Katrina (lived in pass Christian.) ended up moving to the place in Florida where she was in August 2006 bc was having a rough time here during that time then.
My regular Friday at the bar in da parish. Many couldn’t watch anything but a few have watched everything.

I always have that survivor’s guilt. I lived in harahan that point and was able to evacuate. Didn’t have to deal with all the flooding.

So she realized you can’t do that unless you really know. Had other kids ask me if I would jump in front of them if someone got through the classroom door. I was honest and said I had no idea. Fun day in a fifth grade classroom.
Teacher story of day - had a lockdown drill which they called early so my kids ran down the hall coming back from library. One kid was saying how they would go out the window if real. Had to explain that you can’t just go out the window bc we wouldn’t know if a threat was right in that parking lot

20 minutes later the same girl has more gum. Drove me nuts. Called mom and just asked her to please talk to her daughter and this! Also, if you are going to chew gum in class, learn how to not be obvious.
Classroom story of the day - each of my classes are only 1.5 hours. Last class of day, a few girls are chewing gum. I correct them and just make them spit it out. 20 minutes later one of the girls has gum again. I make her spit it out and just knock down her conduct grade for the day.
I charge everything so I can at least still have some sort of noise. I can’t not.

I lived in harahan so I had it easier then most. Developed some ocd shit but didn’t lose anything.

Hurricane Katrina race against time.
Have been watching the new Hulu doc about Katrina today. Went to the bar with a friend and her brother(also my friend.) they pulled up pics of down here showing me where that was now and he ended up in tears. Didn’t mean to do that to him but this is still effecting people from here to this day.

Only mastery and advanced scores give you points. A kid could’ve gone up from an unsat to an app. Basic and would get growth points for the school but it wouldn’t raise the overall baseline.
